Radio 4 ran a programme last night called The Trans Revolution. link to iplayer

It didn't set out to argue for or against anything. It was more of a "how did we get here?"
However, this laudable aim seemed to end up giving voice to lots of trans people and didn't address what they are doing to society. There was a lot of talk about gender, precious little about sex. No mention at all about self-ID.
The conclusion seemed to be that trans was similar to a pop culture - who do you identify with, are you mod/rocker/punk/hippy - and therefore no more complicated than that. It was just another letter to add to the LGBetc alphabet. Nothing to worry about.

It was actually discussed at the time it was broadcast:

I do agree with you about how the programme repackaged what's happening and thus presented a very narrow and largely innocuous version of things.

It's is like being a mod/rocker/ hippy, in the sense that it's an affectation that somehow convinces the individual that it helps then become their 'authentic selves'. That's where the similarities end, as none of the other fads singled out women as a target for hatred and sought to erode their rights. (Any misogyny from hippy 'free love' is incidental, rather than the whole point)
