Can anyone help me prove right/wrong the gender pay gap

DH was watching this YouTube video:

It's made me feel really angry. Of course there is a gender pay gap. Isn't there? I always thought there was...

DH said 'she makes a good point' and 'shes talking a lot of sense' I didn't agree but the problem is, I couldn't actually articulate why. All I could say is 'nope, it's a load of rubbish' I couldn't actually put a point across.

I was wondering if there is anyone who can?

Or, perhaps I am wrong and have been naive and actually, she is completely right.

Either way, I'd really appreciate anyone being able to put across their reasons as it seems I am unable.

As women move in to a field the pay goes down and as men move into a field the pay goes up.
In addition men who work in predominately female occupied fields receive promotion more often than their female counterparts.
The specious argument that since it is illegal it doesn't happen fails to address the fact that wages are kept secret and if you want to keep your job you do not complain.
If it doesn't happen since it is illegal perhaps she could explain why we spend money on the criminal justice system.
I detest dishonest people who lie for a living.

Yes - I have experienced this.

There's a gender pay issue, but you can't use average pay across an entire company to demonstrate this, particularly if the company is predominantly women.

I haven't watched the whole video but when she said about it being about the choices made between balancing work and family, I think this overlooks that in many heterosexual families the onus is on the woman to create that balance. Not all families, obviously, but I can't imagine "Are you going back to work?" or "What will you do for childcare?" are questions asked of many men during their two week paternity leave.

I did a search for 'gender pay gap' in Google Scholar ... too many hits to contemplate reading at this time of night. I doubt there would be so many research papers if it wasn't a real phenomenon though.
