I thought it was like a reverse AIBU, he wanted to call bullshit but realised he would be vilified if he did.....so he got a woman on to do it for him.

I think there is some truth to some of it, but it has no purpose other than to tell women they’re wrong.

BeatriceJoanna · 01/04/2018 14:00

Honestly, I didn't know what to make of it at first. After giving it some thought, I came up with:

i) It wasn't funny

ii) I think theaveragewife is right about it being like an AIBU reverse

iii) I was disappointed. It felt dismissive somehow.

CorbynsComrade · 01/04/2018 16:45

I generally like Pie’s stuff. Saw him live, and he did a whole bit of how badass women Grin

Xenophile · 01/04/2018 16:50

I find him quite hit or miss.

Some of his stuff is hilarious, some of it is just, well, not.

This falls into the second category and not just because he has some things he says entirely wrong.

Fishfingersandwichnocheese · 01/04/2018 17:08

Is this the one where he has a discussion with a feminist ?

I’m seeing that shared by people who are ..well ..misogynists. I couldn’t bring myself to watch it. Is it meant to be ironic/funny or something ? Because I think people are treating it as real.

Xenophile · 01/04/2018 17:27

Yes Fish that's the very badger.

The one that ends with her asking him out for coffee.

Because of course, all a feminist needs is a nice date with a comedian and we'd all stop being feminists, we're only feminists because we can't get any after all.

Fishfingersandwichnocheese · 01/04/2018 18:03

Ah. And ..it’s all a “joke”/ Meant to be funny ?

Xenophile · 01/04/2018 19:21

Allegedly.

I have to say that usually, he really is funny. My BiL saw him a week or so ago and said that he near peed himself he was that funny and tiny but he's missed the mark here. S'ok though, because we're just humourless feminists, so we were never going to get the joke

theaveragewife · 01/04/2018 19:23

Yeah, I normally like him too Confused

JoyTheUnicorn · 01/04/2018 19:23

Dd and I watched it. I ended up ranting about how women’s choices reflect on societal expectations rather than free choices.

randomuntrainedcuntowner · 01/04/2018 19:26

I posted a negative comment on one of his posts where he went on about which one of Theresa may or Angela met Kelly he would like to shag - I basically got lynched and called slag, bitch etc, and him himself commented on how it was supposed to be ironic and I didn't get it etc. I thought he was a twat since then.

Xenophile · 01/04/2018 19:52

Ew random, that's horrible.

I know that a lot of his fans are the kinds of lefty dudebro who enjoys slagging off women, but for him to join in is awful.

ConfusedFeminist · 01/05/2018 14:04

NC for this because expecting a negative reaction.

I came across Pie's co-writer being interviewed about this on Twitter. They talk about a bunch of other stuff for the first 40 minutes but then he defends the video and actually seems pretty reasonable to me.

I wish they'd asked him about the societal expectations issue @JoyTheUnicorn raises though.

Thoughts?

BarrackerBarmer · 01/05/2018 14:24

Is this the one where Pie is interviewing a choicychoice 'feminist' who tells him women are all free to make their choices happily but they choose the shitty low paid jobs because: reasons, and the gender gap doesn't exist after all?

Because I never made it through to the end when that video crossed my path. It was like sitting through an interminably long joke where you can't be arsed to wait for the unfunny punchline.

It was looking like it was heading towards "see, a clever woman has said the pay gap doesn't actually exist and women all have the life they choose, so happy days."

What is he actually claiming was the point of the piece? I may have read it wrong. Although a quick snippet of the video confusedfeminist linked to suggests his partner (who calls himself a feminist) thinks feminism is all about 'equality' and 'empowerment' and that makes him 'old fashioned' unlike these 'victim feminists'.

So I think I probably had it right first time.

something like: Women have all the opportunities men have, look, these women here are really brilliant, and that proves all women 'could' all achieve stuff, but most of us are sadly just a bit shit after all.

ConfusedFeminist · 01/05/2018 14:33

Yes, that's the video, @BarrackerBarmer.

In that interview the guy who co-writes for Jonathan Pie is in the middle, the other two are comedians I think. They're interviewing him about it.

I think his main point is that the media reporting about the wage gap is misleading and what we should talk about is the pay gap...
