2018 should be the year of trans representation in politics...

....according to everyone's favourite CLP Women's Officer: broadly.vice.com/en_us/article/xw7wvd/lily-madigan-transgender-labour-essay

I'm going to guess that maths is not their best subject, given the large number of trans politicians now holding meaningful positions, along with the platform that many trans writers, activists and politicians have on both social media and MSM. Whilst women (just over half the population) are still a long, long way short of representation in proportion

So it's Women's fault there's no debate

SubsidisedVowels · 29/03/2018 20:28

At the rate some of the female Labour MPs are going, they'd probably give up their seat to a transwoman (I know that's not how it works) so they can "stand with their sisters, not just their cisters" and all that.

I thought 2018 was supposed to be the year of the woman?

I tried to read the article but lost the will to live early one. Madigan is not a talented writer. Madigan does have a hugely inflated sense of self though.

I truly hope Madigan looks back in 5 years time and cringes. Madigan wouldn’t need to apologise or anything, the knowledge that Madigan knows what Madigan did and has to live with it would be enough.

I literally clicked on it, read ‘let us lead the resistance against our oppression’, sighed a sigh of a thousand exhausted a level English teachers, and closed the link.

I thought 2018 was supposed to be the year of the woman?

The year of the woman they want to hear from - themselves.

Lily, a message to you,if you're on here, and I suspect you may be due to your raging narcissism.

It must be really difficult at the moment for you, knowing that you, as well as some other trans-identifiying men, are responsible for sending many of us 'natal' (hate that term) women over the edge from 'nurturing, trying to see your point of view and not hurt your feelings' types of people into 'no, just no, stop it now' types of people.

You may be feeling attacked, and experiencing dissonance right now - some people put you on a pedestal, and now there's a growing swell of people questioning your motives.

I appreciate you may have had difficulties in expressing your desire to appropriate the stereotypes that people associate with 'woman', your desire to wear 'female' stereotypical clothes and mannerisms, and that must be harsh at times - though many people around you seem to affirm and celebrate it, and launch you onto platforms, so maybe not that harsh?

But despite those around you who affirm your'women' and 'woke' status,a growing voice elsewhere is contradicting the narrative you and others have built for very good and important reasons. (aka womens' rights)

You're not the main reason, but your constant niggling in my background consciousness has helped to wake me up (not to be 'woke' but truly, woken me up from my previously feminism-lite position to one of a proud, female standing back up for my rights that so many other natal women fought for me to have).

Yet again, you centre 'transwomen' in your narrative in this article and position yourself as the ultimate victim. If you truly believed you were a woman, why would you want to centre this narrative towards trans all of the time? You represent women in your own CLP. Where are non-trans womens' issues? As a woman who's always known they were a woman, and experienced all that 'woman' means, surely you would be fighting for all the common issues that we face?

Yet instead, you shout 'TERF' at me, without a hesitation, without knowing who I am and my life experience. You have no desire to learn, to listen, to question, even if it strengthens your viewpoint. You just shut me down, not for talking to you, not for interacting with others, simply for listening to someone who you disagree with.

That is not politics. That is a parallel world. One of no debate, no discussion.

If you truly were a 'woman' why would you not know that all of this hate, misogyny, struggle is just part of being a woman, not a 'transwoman'?

Why would you ignore constantly the issues that women in your constituency face each and every day? To instead focus on your sole issue - trans.

The more you centre yourself as the victim in this, the more you raise me up to be the woman who roars.

In a strange way Lily, I want to thank you. Thank you for getting me back on my feet to fight for womens' rights.

And that's womens' rights. Not men who 'feel' like women.

And to previous post - comma use is all over the place! Grammar police - call me out. Gender police - yeah....nope!

Thanks ladyballs! There's so much debate and posts going on I thought I'd torpedoed the thread (sorry OlennasWimpole!) so thank you for acknowledging! Not that I'm too concerned - off lurking and taking action elsewhere, but it's nice to know someone read my post!

TheFootOfMyStairs · 30/03/2018 00:53

Yessss Pombear !! Excellent post - thank you!

And this - But despite those around you who affirm your'women' and 'woke' status,a growing voice elsewhere is contradicting the narrative you and others have built for very good and important reasons. (aka womens' rights)

Everyone knows the Emperor has no clothes - and the more the Emperor's protest "How very dare you! We're "dressed!!", the more the growing voice is being heard - "Oh no you're not"....

agender · 30/03/2018 08:08

Liam is talking shit as usual. The transgender stuff came from the European Court of Justice egregiously extending the scope of 'sex dscrimination' to cover arbitrary 'gender', back in 1996.

QuentinSummers · 30/03/2018 09:21

So tedious. Me, Me, all about meeeeeeee

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 30/03/2018 09:37

I'm not clicking on that.
Sick to death of this wee fucker

At the rate some of the female Labour MPs are going, they'd probably give up their seat to a transwoman (I know that's not how it works) so they can "stand with their sisters, not just their cisters" and all that.

Maybe putting it out there in the hands of the voters is what is needed to get this issue into the mainstream consciousness of the Great British Public?

Bloody hell, given the outrage over Toby Jones' earlier social media transgressions, the MSM would have a field day if a present-day TRA stood.

Bravado today on FB and Twitter is likely to come back and bit you on the bum further down the line.
