Here's the IRFU petition link from the other thread

Heaven help you in sport/cricket if you are involved in a ball tampering scandal. No need to go to court on this. Guilty!

www.theguardian.com/sport/2018/mar/29/a-stain-on-the-game-david-warner-apologises-for-ball-tampering-scandal

The headline to this is

'Devastated Steve Smith breaks down during apology for ball tampering scandal'

There are many who will see through these tears.

Elendon · 29/03/2018 12:34

This thread has been an eye opener to read. Thank you to all in NI who have followed the trial and are tirelessly campaigning.

I believe you.

I stand with you.

Totallymyownperson · 29/03/2018 13:19

Jean hatchet has done it again she has set up a go fundme page for complainant in paddy Jackson called Rape complainant vs Paddy Jackson.

QuentinSummers · 29/03/2018 13:21

Yes! Will be donating later. Well done Jean.

Maryz · 29/03/2018 13:24

Considering the weather in dublin today, and the short notice, there was a fairly impressive turnout in O'Connell Street.

I hope the IRFU are watching.

BitOutOfPractice · 29/03/2018 13:27

Some of the social media comments I have seen about the victim are truly truly shocking and vile

DioneTheDiabolist · 29/03/2018 13:29

Pretty good turnout in Belfast as well.

Maryz · 29/03/2018 13:36

BitOutOfPractice, what I don't understand about the social media comments is the obvious (and completely missed by the posters) double standards.

OK there are a few accusing her of making it all up (which are almost understandable) but the majority are calling her all sorts of names for her behaviour because she went to a party, had a few drinks, wore a thong and had sex.

But in the same breath they are admiring of the men who went to a party, had a shit-load to drink, took all their clothes off and had sex [baffled]

Taking the rape/consent/court case out of it, how come they are so gleefully condemn a 19 year old girl and simultaneously praising four 20+ year old men for (what they think is) exactly the same behaviour

It's a real eye-opener.

whoputthecatout · 29/03/2018 13:43

Maryz

Because it's the old double standard isn't it?

Men can fuck 1,000 women and be lauded as studs. Women, well slags, whores etc etc if they have more than a handful of partners.

Personally I think of those rugby males as slags.

Lichtie · 29/03/2018 13:48

Maryz... There will always be posters who post nonsense. But is the double standards any different to posters commenting on the defendants being guilty and how she is the victim when they can't possibly know this?

Maryz · 29/03/2018 13:52

It's not the same, Lichtie: I'm not viewing them differently because they are men, I'm viewing them differently because of their proven attitudes to women, evidenced by their messages and their admitted behaviour over a number of nights, together with their gleeful celebration of their behaviour.

Many on social media are condemning her for her perceived behaviour simply because she is a woman. Double standards.

yy whoputthecatout, it's shocking to see it so obviously expressed, though.

HolyShmoly · 29/03/2018 13:55

Is it that eye opening though? It's the same shit all the time. Women should be grateful for every bit of attention a man gives them and willing to do anything for them, and if she is she's a slut who was asking for it, if not she's frigid, a cock-tease, needs a bit of cock to sort her out. Men are just walking penises with no liability for their actions.
I have my own thoughts on the verdict but what enrages and what I think should enrage everyone - man or woman- is how a potential victim was treated in court. Even if you don't believe her, how could anyone feel strong enough to ever go to court.

I can't imagine knowing Jackson's solicitor in real life. He is a scummy piece of shit. His mother must be ashamed of him and his comments.

Lichtie · 29/03/2018 13:57

Maryz.. And do you have same disdain for the women who participate in these activities with them, because there are plenty that do.

Maryz · 29/03/2018 14:03

Are there really Lichtie?

I've never met a woman who is open about sharing men with their friends, who is so rough with the men that they sleep with that they leave them bleeding. I've never met a woman who, knowing the man (teenager) they physically hurt last night was so upset he had to be taken home by a friend, sits around and discusses it and make jokes about how hilarious it all is?

If there is such a woman then yes I would be very unimpressed by her behaviour.

wordtothewise · 29/03/2018 14:04

It isn't the exact same behaviour though. What interest do you think this (and the many other) young women has in rugby ?

Does she just happen to be stimulated by the well known wit and repartee of rugger buggers ?

Isn't she just objectifying them because they are successful ? They know she wouldn't touch them with a barge pole if they were scaffolders. Men have no respect for women like this.

That's not to say she wasn't raped, she may well have been.

Do you think young women who must now be well aware of how these men perceive them will be dissuaded from donning nice underwear and trying to get into VIP parties ? I doubt it somehow.

Lichtie · 29/03/2018 14:16

Maryz... There are plenty of women who have group sex with men, especially celebrities whether that be with more than one male or more than one female. Whether you've met them or not is irrelevant.

BitOutOfPractice · 29/03/2018 14:26

Maryz yes that is absolutely the case

I clicked on one profile picture on FB of one man who'd said the most vile things and there he is with two adorable young lads and I despair for the future if someone with those views is responsible for bringing up children

Maryz · 29/03/2018 14:27

Ok, grand, if there is a group of women who behave and talk as these men do, then I'm happy to condemn their behaviour and attitudes as well.

I don't hold women and men to different standards, unlike many on sm today Hmm

Wheresmyfuckingcupcake · 29/03/2018 14:40

I think this lionisation of “sportsmen” has got to stop. They’re chucking a ball around. It ain’t rocket science, brain surgery or composing symphonies. It’s skill of a pretty low order. If you find it entertaining, knock yourself out, but don’t tell the ignorant fuckers they’re great men. They’re not.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 29/03/2018 14:57

This was what maryz said

I've never met a woman who is open about sharing men with their friends, who is so rough with the men that they sleep with that they leave them bleeding. I've never met a woman who, knowing the man (teenager) they physically hurt last night was so upset he had to be taken home by a friend, sits around and discusses it and make jokes about how hilarious it all is?

No answer for the rest of it im guessing

Passthefuckingprosecco · 29/03/2018 15:07

Exactly. There are no double standards whatsoever in what Maryz has posted.

How did that post get the response women like group sex too?

MrWriter · 29/03/2018 15:29

I'm in NI and I've been following this case, thankfully most of the people I work with (all men) have the same attitude as me, and think that the WhatsApps are disgusting and they should be ashamed.

Unfortunately, the one man who I share an office with has just commented to me that womens rights have gone to far now. I'm trying not screech in his face.

I work close to the courts and was heartened to see such a good turn out, with lots of flowers strung up on the fencing.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 29/03/2018 15:48

the one man who I share an office with has just commented to me that womens rights have gone to far now.

Hmm what was he basing that on? Women reporting rapes? Yes, too far indeed. Know your place and your purpose women! Angry

DeleteOrDecay · 29/03/2018 15:50

A privileged (presumably white) man, telling a woman that women's rights have gone 'too far'.

The fucking gallAngry
