I have delved into the dark underbelly of Twitter and so have had the "privilege" to come across some proper trans activists.

Some gems including someone who really believes women cannot tell the difference between men who say they're women and women. That it's "gaslighting" of me to suggest anyone can tell the difference.

And another tra lecturing me how transmen have the exact same physiological structure as men (because taking hormones) so he really cannot understand how transwomen should be excluded from women's sport. "Arm/leg lengths differ between people I have short legs = therefore all men should be included with women in sport" because artificial hormones.

Other gems... I have cis privilege because I think transwomen with penises should be seen as a type of Man... (let's just say I reject cis anyway and my years living as a prostitute is it really seen as a privilege?)

I'm not sure what sort of social media conversations you are all having but it is horrible being a GC feminist out there!

I do wonder if the twittery goading is a rather effective (accidental or deliberate) way to take up energies... there's likely much more to be gained by getting discussions started away from it. One of the most active of goadytwits commented 'this is all about those who are sitting on the fence, some activists don't realise this'.

Ereshkigal · 10/04/2018 16:20

But it's horrible. I saw one person complain about my comment to someone else, in a 'woe is me' kind of way, because I'd used Trans Identifying Male.

I just shrug that off. Otherwise I am compromising my own beliefs in a way that makes me deeply uncomfortable. I won't do "trans woman" as I said on your other thread. It's Orwellian. And it does women no favours at all.

DullAndOld · 10/04/2018 16:34

i have been called a 'cockroach' on fb for saying something about women's spaces being for..women.

it is all they can do, resort to aggressive insults, because they don't have ...you know, fact or science on their side.

I did just laugh and shrug it off but these people are seriously nasty.

What i dont understand, is if they hate women as much as some of them seem to....why do they want to be pretend women?

It's utterly bizarre.

I do have a transexual friend, but she is not one of these aggressive young ones who just seem to want to insult women.

AnitaLovesVictor · 10/04/2018 16:43

Honestly? I don't think the ones that genuinely want to be women (transexuals) hate us.

It's the AGPs - who fetishize womanhood - they really hate us. ANd the good old fashioned misogynists are happy to join in with the abuse against women.

loveyouradvice · 10/04/2018 16:47

I alternatively want to cry and hide under the bedclothes and go out all Amazonian and blazing.....

THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE HAPPENING IN MY LIFETIME, OR AT LEAST FOR US IN THE WESTERN WORLD.....

I can understand the fury and tantrums of the GRA ... What I can't understand is WHY people pay any attention....WHY they have taken such a hold SO fast on serous institutions and our culture....

HOW are people not calling out the Emperor's lack of clothes?

And I keep believing this will happen soon

Thank goodness for all of you....

Ereshkigal · 10/04/2018 17:19

I've said before, that on Twitter you have to contend not only with woke male allies who are often horrendously misogynistic but also your bog standard chauvinist who likes to have a go at women any chance he gets. And criticise anything he perceives as special treatment for women, like AWS. The fact that he also thinks trans issues are nonsense notwithstanding. The chance to put down women generally will win out, as he gets a thrill out of it.

picklemepopcorn · 10/04/2018 18:45

I'm generally gently challenging daftness where I see it, and hoping drawing attention to the illogic will make someone notice. Also, that maybe a few likes and retweets will hearten those at the front of the fight. The attack on Jana was appalling. I want to encourage Sophie Walker to be gender critical, too.

But I may well be wasting my energy.

I agree about TW, ereshkigal. I use it out of courtesy to refer to those I 'know'.

In the abstract it is definitely TIM.

picklemepopcorn · 10/04/2018 18:48

All the on the fence people seem to respond best if you meet them where they are, and let them go deeper into GC when they are ready. Leaping straight into the shark infested waters of full on anti trans- ideology is a bit terrifying for your average, non confrontational person.

Ereshkigal · 10/04/2018 18:55

It is, but I think we still should respect our own truth.

momszilla · 10/04/2018 20:33

ha ha i feel the same way i watch funny dog video to balance the TRA crap... they so want MN taken down Sad

Yep. I engaged in conversation with one who was attacking a WP speaker.

I came out knowing how Edward Woodward must've felt when he landed on Summerisle. 😂😂😂

picklemepopcorn · 20/04/2018 18:03

It's gone very quiet for me now, I think I've been blocked by everyone except the rain crew! Oh and helen mermaids (lucky me). She makes me grind my teeth.
