So really, if you are a woman, girl or have a penis you can join in at an event to celebrate 100 years since women got the vote. Sad

OP posts:
AreYouTerfEnough · 21/03/2018 08:02

There’s no one to vote for now anyway. There’s nothing to celebrate Sad

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 21/03/2018 08:16

Yes, you're right Terf. That's a lovely thing to wake up to

Aristaeus76 · 21/03/2018 08:33

Sounds good despite the objectification of men in the OP.

Ereshkigal · 21/03/2018 08:55

There’s no one to vote for now anyway. There’s nothing to celebrate

So sadly true.

SweetheartNeckline · 21/03/2018 09:24

My DH came on our centenery march which was open to all. I was very grateful for this as it meant my 3 DDs could join in (all under 7) as it was safer with 2 adults given the crowds and roads to cross etc.

However it wasn't branded as women only, it was open to all. This feels different.

DjunaBarnes · 21/03/2018 09:32

I think the answer for the processions thing is to make a lot of banners of giant wombs.

ShotsFired · 21/03/2018 09:53

"By clicking ‘male’ in the gender field"

Male is a sex not a gender.

ArcheryAnnie · 21/03/2018 10:04

If they'd said "would you have had a vote before this change came about if you lived 100 years ago? Then join the supporters group, not the procession" that would have been powerful.

This, not so much.

Milvusmilvus · 21/03/2018 10:04

I would like to march with no scarf, with the front of my scrawny neck on display but no Adam's apple haha.
The female front area of neck is my new cleavage, we could do with a new word for this. Grin
I will also sing 'doh rae me far so lah tee doooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhh'! Emphasis on the highest shrieking note
Heads high everybody and sing.Smile

ErrolTheDragon · 21/03/2018 10:05

This event appears to be transexclusionary and transphobic - transmen are among those who wouldn't have been able to vote because of their sex 100 years ago, but it seems they would only be allowed to donate not participate.

Or maybe it's an example of that far commoner phenomenon, XXphobia?

ArcheryAnnie · 21/03/2018 10:19

I've registered.

I really love Artichoke, they've done some amazing things in the past, but fucking hell, I want a route to redirect this into being about actual women, which is why I've registered.

FencingFightingTorture35 · 21/03/2018 11:17

They're bending so far over backwards to accommodate everyone that you don't even have to declare your gender in taking part.

It's an absolute farce.

Aristaeus76 · 21/03/2018 16:52

@ shotsfired, the word gender can be used as an alternative to the word sex. Things can have more than one word to describe them, and words can have more than one meaning.

Fekko · 21/03/2018 16:56

Why did they have to drag the 'if you identify as a goat...' Into it?

A march is great and yes why not men join in too - men argued for the vote and it was a male PM/government who passed the bill.

But please can't we just celebrate women?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 21/03/2018 16:58

@Aristaeus - that's one of the things that should be up for free discussion. That is the point of much of this supposed transphobia!

Cos, well, you know, many women, females, the ones with the biological sex female, due to their chromosomes, do NOT agree that gender is the same as sex and would like the definition of both words to remain distinct.

Mainly because of that elephant in the room... the one TRAs will do anything to silence... which your post only adds to!

RJnomore1 · 21/03/2018 16:58

Gender is a social construct

Sex is a biological fact

They are not the same thing.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 21/03/2018 17:02

But wait, when people were celebrating this a few weeks ago the TRAs were telling us how abusive we were and how disgusting the suffragettes were. Not to mention that they say the suffragettes were racist - I thought if your feminism wasn’t intersectional then it wasn’t feminism?

FlakyToast · 21/03/2018 17:29

Can you imagine men trying to "identify" in to womanhood a 100 years ago? Maybe the most severely dysphoric transexuals but the Muscatos and the Madigans? Fucking ridiculous.

Aristaeus76 · 21/03/2018 18:50

Gender can be a social construct or an alternative word for sex depending on context, especially to avoid possible confusion between sexual intercourse or sexual reproduction. Like I say, words can have more than one definition.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 21/03/2018 21:04

Huh? I have a sneaking suspicion that doesn't make sense!

Gender intercourse, gender reproduction? Nope!

Yes, the meaning of words do change over time. They do so because of common usage and the majority of a cohort agreeing.

The problem here is that a tiny minority are pushing for the concatenation and are doing all they can to shut down any and all discussions that might result in the two words remaining discrete.

You may say words change ad infinitum but that won't mean that very many people will disagree and will have really good reasons why... like science!

ErrolTheDragon · 22/03/2018 00:20

Sure, 'gender' has been widely used as a euphemism for sex. Unfortunately, this has been used by the TRA types to conflate and then prioritise self-defined gender 'feelz' over biological reality.

ScienceIsTruth · 22/03/2018 00:29

Mumsnet use the term 'gender' on their profile page. I'm disappointed they've not kept the correct term 'sex'.

It seems everyone is conforming to the changing of this word's meaning within our language.

Fancy a walk to celebrate women getting he vote 100 years ago? Got a penis? Sure join in!
ErrolTheDragon · 22/03/2018 01:03

I've complained about that one before. FFS, a parenting site is ultimately the product of sex, surely parents don't need that euphemism. And obviously as there are only two choices they did mean sex, as they missed out the other 70 or so gender options.
Offensive to both snowflakes and gender-critical! Grin
