How is it appropriate to have someone convicted of Domestic Abuse appear on a dating show?! Am I going mad? I mean, I don't understand why anyone is hiring him for anything but WTF. Please tell me you're all shocked too?!

I'm over 40 now and officially un-shockable But yes, a total turd who deserves to be shunned.

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/03/2018 15:05

Write to them? What's the address?

Trumpdump · 20/03/2018 15:26

My word! Can that show not get any lower? Angry

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/03/2018 16:08

People know it’s not in my nature Oh! Good for him for taking full responsibility for being an abuser.

I emailed... we shall see!

RadicalFern · 20/03/2018 17:06

I hate to break it to Jeremy, but if he's doing something, it's in his nature. That's how the whole nature thing works.

TreesAgreen · 20/03/2018 17:11

Think this thread should be posted on the rest of mumsnet too.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/03/2018 17:14

My email

I have read that Jeremy McConnell is booked to appear in your 'celebrity special’ editions of Naked Ambition.

I would like to ask why? Did anyone stop to think about what makes him a celebrity in the first place? I appreciate that the heightened media interest in a man convicted of domestic abuse could be seen, by some, as an added publicity draw for your entertainment production. But really? A man convicted of beating his partner - on a televised dating show? Have you really got no idea what a twisted picture f ‘dateable’ you will be projecting. You will, effectively, be telling young women that you endorse him as partner material, telling men that, regardless of their violent pasts, if they are considered to be ‘beautiful’ they can still make a living being held up as desirable love object.

Shame on whoever it was who chose to book him. If that person was male he needs a lesson on misogyny and how to avoid looking like a domestic violence excuser. If a woman she needs to raise her levels of self confidence and self worth.

Overall, I find the whole concept shameful!

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 20/03/2018 17:15

Thanks, ladies. Shall I post it on AIBU too?
So glad i'm not alone in my outrage ;)

Good work @CuriousaboutSamphire

Nice to see that beating a woman doesn't seem to prevent you being datable material.

Pleased to say that I wasn’t previously aware of this waste of oxygen but genuinely shocked by this. He hasn’t even served his bloody time - he’s still under his suspended sentence.

I’d watch it if the conclusion was “So, Stephanie, you picked candidate C because you thought this good looking bloke with a bit of charm was a real catch, but actually he’s a violent fuckwit who no woman in their right mind would touch with a barge pole. The moral of this story is to trust nae fucker. The End.”

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/03/2018 17:27

CuriousaboutSamphire Please would you post your email on the AIBU thread too?

RadicalFern · 20/03/2018 17:28

I'm also tweeting them. I can't imagine that it will make them look good, but then again maybe they're looking for the sensationalism to revive their dying program

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/03/2018 17:29

I may even correct the misper Smile

CopASquat · 20/03/2018 17:31

Wow that's disgusting

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/03/2018 17:32

Hold on though - buried in the Mail article it says Channel 4 are denying it?

Slowcookervegan · 20/03/2018 17:33

Is there not enough men in the world that he has to be chosen? Disgusting

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/03/2018 17:35

buried in the Mail article it says Channel 4 are denying it? Well, they say they haven't commissioned the celebrity special, which is why I emailed the production company!

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 20/03/2018 17:35

Oooh they must have updated that since I first posted as it definitely didn't say that earlier!
Here's hoping it turns out to not be true and McConnell can crawl back under his rock.

Good thinking Samphire. I shall do the same.
