We didn't take them seriously until it became apparent that politicians and policy makers appeared to be taking their steer on formulating policy round trans issues from nutcases on 4chan and reddit. The infamous Steffonknee apparently at one time advised the Canadian establishment at least at state level if not at national level. Maria Miller took "Action on Trans Health" (the nutters in Edinburgh) more seriously than she took the professional body of criminal psychologists who work with offenders in prison.

I'd love to be able to say "but these are simply the toilets of the internet". They are, I totally agree with you. But when the likes of Maria Miller are listening to them, unfortunately we can't afford to ignore them.
