Originally the addition of phobe or phobia was to denote a fear or an irrational fear.
However, it appears that the new way to discredit another person’s belief is to call them a “phobe” or “phobic” thus labelling them as irrational.
It seems that a new phobia needs to be named as phronemphobia (a fear of thinking) does not adequately include the need to think critically. I propose the word: Realityphobe
This new word does not relate to virtual reality, but instead to people who cannot accept some realities. For example, a group of people who maintain the Earth is flat despite any evidence presented to them, including science. It could be applied to an organisation that does not believe that gun control may decrease the number of mass shootings, or the people who deny climate change, the need for vaccination or the reality of biological sex.
Or is this new term a bad idea?
