Whatever has gone on since the HoC meeting has resulted in JJ blocking VA on twitter and talk of a signed letter condemning Sheila J’s comments going to the Guardian then being retracted. What the hell is going on?
It’s all very nasty, there is surely room for differing opinions?
If people don’t want to elaborate due to ‘lurkers’ , I’ll get this removed .

The left is eating itself. Its what it does best

Yes, chunks taken out of me on this board today. I am finished helping out, it's clearly not good enough, poor disabled people are not wanted on here.

ChristianPOV · 16/03/2018 21:12

Behaving just like the Goldsmith students themselves.

Mouthtrousersafrocknowandthen · 16/03/2018 21:21

Maybe it's this?

Shelia showed a picture of this body suit man and described it as parasitical in the way he is occupying the fake body.

Pink News have then changed that to mean we called trans parasites. A different word. But massively shit stirring obviously. And gives labour the phobe bullets they need to shoot each other.

It could be something else altogether......

I'm a little concerned about the atmosphere on here in the last few days. It seems that the focus has changed. Before it seemed to me that all were on the same page regarding self id. Now the focus has suddenly switched to the GRC, and fights are breaking out.

Everyone of course is welcome to their own opinion and their choice of rights to fight for. However this looks to divide the group. There are many on here who have strictly joined the battle to stop self id. Sadly their support will be lost if the focus becomes the GRC.

None of us have the right to tell each other which is the right cause to follow. However, when something is this massive and complicated, you pick the battle that you can tackle and band together to face it.

It is understandable to want to tackle the GRC, but that's one that may be next to impossible to alter as it is already enshrined in law. It may also mean the loss of any political persons who have considered supporting the fight against self id.

Regardless of all of that, mudslinging is never a good look, and we are under a microscope.

People are putting all sorts on the line. I understand VA had to move, she and JJ had a hard time from the Labour party. People have been arrested, had problems with employers and beaten up.

People on here then ask for help, they want people to share petitions and all sorts, then start picking at the way others can and do help.

Like the Labour party, you have not only lost me, I will be telling all those I persuaded to help, that it's no different to momentum on here at the moment.

I have been on MN on and off for years, back before box room, the one standing like a Trex in the supermarket and Jeffrey. It's like AIBU over here now.

"Before it seemed to me that all were on the same page regarding self id. Now the focus has suddenly switched to the GRC, and fights are breaking out."

I think people are talking more about self id because it's the more pressing issue. But I always assumed it would lead to more questioning of the GRA itself?

MixedHerbs · 16/03/2018 22:10

Not to me.
I'm only interested in two aspects - preventing self-id, and protecting women and children.
I have absolutely no problem with accepting a GRC and I don't understand why a transgender person would not want to progress to obtaining one by jumping through the necessary hoops, as in fact we all must at some points in our lives to achieve what we really want. Sometimes, a bit of paper does matter, and to get that GRC, well, for a transgender person that must be amazing, like being born and getting citizenship all in one. And so I don't understand why so many are not moving towards that. And I wonder if actually we should strengthen the position regarding GRCs.
I don't think female bodysuit person is much of a threat. Certainly strange, certainly a fire risk. But I suspect a person in one of those walking through my local shopping centre would attract a bit of attention from the police (usually hanging out in Costa). I don't think it was the right time or place, dealing with that can wait.
Refocus: stop any further erosion of common sense and women's/children's rights; stop medical/surgical intervention on minors. Those are my concerns.

InLoveWithDavidTennant · 16/03/2018 22:17

I agree with what mixedherbs has just posted

LostArt · 16/03/2018 22:21

"I don't understand why a transgender person would not want to progress to obtaining one "

It's because they don't need one. Why go through all the hassle when the GRC is unnecessary?

UpstartCrow · 16/03/2018 22:29

Excellent post MixedHerbs.

Mouthtrousersafrocknowandthen · 16/03/2018 22:51

Its men like these. These men are legally women according to politicians around the world. Self ID makes it so. Woman means putting this on when you get home. Coming on a IWD march. Wherever they want to go, no questions asked. Our new best friends.
