Paris Lees' thoughts on sport...

Hi All,

Mentioned a while ago that I am having interesting trans discussions with my wonderful friends from our feminist book group. Lots of respectful and engaged discussions going on.

One friend sent me this article by our dear friend Paris Lees Wink and I need to rebuff the claims about sports! Have official bodies really given their 'blessing' to TW in all women's sports because there is no difference?!

www.vice.com/en_uk/article/3b7j3j/fallon-fox-is-a-woman-get-over-it-925

I know about individual cases of TW being allowed to compete but thought it was that 'running in front of the law' style thing. I know about Fallon Fox, Laurel Hubbard, Lauren Jeska (sorry I need to check spelling) - and is there a Middle Eastern football team too?

I will also send her the Swim England bollocks guidelines.

And could anyone send me any links which suggest men do not magically change into women after a year on HRT?!

I will share this link with my friend.

Thanks all for any info xx

What do these feminist friends think?

Found this in a Pubmed link which could be relevant; note how it doesn't say that they lose muscle mass....

"The following changes are expected after estrogen is initiated: breast growth, increased body fat, slowed growth of body and facial hair, decreased testicular size and erectile function. The extent of these changes and the time interval for maximum change varies across patients and may take up to 18 to 24 months to occur. Use of anti-androgenic therapy as an adjunct helps to achieve maximum change."

Full link here. It's broadly sympathetic to hormone therapy for trans people.

These are the IOC guidelines

Those who transition from male to female are eligible to compete in the female category under the following conditions:

2.1. The athlete has declared that her gender identity is female. The declaration cannot be changed, for sporting purposes, for a minimum
of four years.
2.2. The athlete must demonstrate that her total testosterone level in serum has been below 10 nmol/L for at least 12 months prior to her first competition (with the requirement for any longer period to be based on a confidential case-by-case evaluation, considering whether or not 12 months is a sufficient length of time to minimize any advantage in women’s competition).
2.3. The athlete's total testosterone level in serum must remain below 10 nmol/L throughout the period of desired eligibility to compete in the female category.
2.4. Compliance with these conditions may be monitored by testing. In the event of non-compliance, the athlete’s eligibility for female competition will be suspended for 12 months.

Wobbles v briefly - they recognise it is a tricky issue, and are broadly sympathetic to transwomen but I think because they haven't seen the nasty stuff yet! I need to show them all the AGP, twitter threats, and transing kids stuff, I think...

Hormone therapy also has no bearing on increased bone density, smaller q angle, larger lung capacity, greater number of fast twitch muscle fibres and increased VO2 max that men have over women, so even TIMs on hormones will retain these advantages. They’re cheats.

IndominusRex · 16/03/2018 15:55

The key issues that can't be altered with hormones are bone density and lung capacity. Both of these give males a distinct advantage. There is a recent case of a handballer who is now the top scoring 'woman' despite about 400th as a man.

OlennasWimple · 16/03/2018 16:03

The Middle Eastern football team you are probably thinking of is the Iranian women's team, which is almost entirely comprised of transwomen.

It is not coincidental, IMHO, that being gay in Iran is a criminal offence punishable by death
