What, like the fact that only women bleed????

Dear lord:

'A transgender man will be the face of a groundbreaking campaign to challenge stereotypes around periods.

'Kenny Jones, 23, is taking his place alongside female models to show that it’s not just women who experience menstruation.'

Kenny took hormone blockers from age 17 so hasn't had a period for 6 years..... about the same time as my hysterectomy!

There is a bizarre quote here, "Research by the brand has found that just eight per cent of period related online content depicts the experience of the trans community, with 92 per cent viewing periods from a binary perspective only."
Very little said sadly about period poverty or any of the other women featured in the campaign.

Atthebottomofthesea · 15/03/2018 23:17

I'm not sure if telling everyone to say that they are on their period is any better than saying I'm on. Both are nicey nicey ways of talking about it.

You have period because no one dare say menstruation. The t-shirts are just dreadful too.

Atthebottomofthesea · 15/03/2018 23:20

nose that is a strange quote. They want a piece of everything.

I've followed the trans threads quite closely and don't really have a problem with this article. He used to have periods when he was a she so is qualified to talk about them. And he seems to be someone who has transitioned in the old-fashioned sense of the word, not the new sense where if you like fluffy unicorns and hair you are a woman.

But that quote is weird:

"Research by the brand has found that just eight per cent of period related online content depicts the experience of the trans community, with 92 per cent viewing periods from a binary perspective only."

I think 8% sounds remarkably high. If they're saying that's low, then are they saying more than 8% of women are actually Trans-men? (If that's the right word I've confused myself now!!!)

Er, so just how does this person epitomise the current cultist ideology that 'not' only women bleed (although this is untrue, the song has it right) when they have in fact not bled for six years and are highly unlikely to do so again while they continue to take male hormones.
I like to state the bleedin' (sorry) obvious
This Is not only tedious virtue signalling by whatever airhead dreamed it up, it's utter drivel.
And yes, period poverty and difficulties faced by young women and girls in dealing with periods in safe and private spaces are seemingly not considered as important as the feelings of a tiny minority.

Didiusfalco · 15/03/2018 23:33

I don’t get the outrage on this occasion - so Kenny has chosen a less conventional route to not having periods anymore. He still had them, it’s like saying if you had a hysterectomy your feelings/opinions on periods would become invalid - I don’t think any one would suggest that.

Didiusfalco · 15/03/2018 23:34

Agree about the lack of discussion on period poverty though - that needs more discussion and publicity.

I agree.

Hear, hear. These people seem to be so self-obsessed that there's no room for them to think about anyone else.

Kenny Jones, 23, is taking his place alongside female models to show that it’s not just women who experience menstruation

But it IS just women who experience menstruation! Even if we accept the contention that the individual stopped being a woman and turned into a man, he stopped having periods when he did so. So whether you accept the biology or you don't, it's still nonsensical either way.

Potato25 · 16/03/2018 11:38

Yeah women menstruating isn't a stereotype, it's a biological process... I don't get why they have this person fronting the campaign.

thanksjaneshusbandatcaresouth · 16/03/2018 13:34

I got half way through the thread before I understood this, had my sexes mixed up.

Amortentia · 16/03/2018 16:17

Yes, I’m sure young women can really relate to someone who wants to be a man and doesn’t have periods.
