How do you know you're a man then?

I was thinking whether it might be interesting (helpful) to turn the question of why Transwomen are women, just because they feel they are or KNOW they are women, back onto the men who support this by asking them "Well, how do you know you're a man?"

I mean if a Transwoman KNOWS they are a woman because (insert spurious bollocks about lady brain/feelz here) then how DOES a man know he's a man, and by extension, a woman know she's a woman?

If a man can't explain how he knows he's a man without resorting to stereotypes, then he surely has to accept that a woman (even one with a penis can't either) and it's down to biology.

Just musing here. Hoping there might be a relatively simple way to get the point across to those who have simply accepted the dogma without thought.

Maybe I'm reaching a bit.

But am prepared to be flamed.

Fishfingersandwichnocheese · 14/03/2018 18:59

Some inate superiority complex perhaps ?

ElenOfTheWays · 14/03/2018 19:07

I thought it might be worth a try. Smile
Logic, you know. Sometimes it works. Hehe

I could see where you were going with this from just the thread title, and just thought "genius." Because if you get people to list what makes someone a man, they're either going to come up with a list of toxic masculine traits (bad), or (arguably even worse) simply a list of traits that make for a fully paid up member of the human race - all those things women have wanted for ages but have been told they lack (having one's views taken seriously, being in control, being assertive, being dignified, being listened to, being strong, not being sexually objectified). In other words, however you cut it, it's going to look like even more blatant sexism than the "skirts and lippy and pink sparkles" version of "being a woman."

MrsFogi · 14/03/2018 20:47

Just checked with dh and I quote..."It's a good start if you have a dick attached somewhere between your legs". And then after a bit more man-thought...."And your chromosomes are XY".
This evening I am not going to be self-identifying as a man if that is the definition.

ElenOfTheWays · 14/03/2018 21:25

MrsFogi That's pretty much what mine said, but he's a bad test case as I peaked him some time ago. Grin

HairyBallTheorem Exactly, I can't see how it leaves them anywhere else to go really (hopeful fool?)

When you are of the sex that still gets to have a named public bathroom. It's only women that have to budge over.

How do you know you're a man then?
Voice0fReason · 14/03/2018 22:24

My DH puts it all down to having a dick.
My sons can't answer the question - they don't know what it is they just know they are.

thebewilderness · 14/03/2018 22:29

8th rule of misogyny: Men are whatever men say they are and women are whatever men say they are.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 14/03/2018 22:31

That fucking thing better be a mock up, Ova! Shock

TERFragetteCity · 14/03/2018 22:34

I always ask this of the women's officers telling us how TW are women. I ask them how they knew they were a woman, in order to apply for the position. Never been answered.

OvaHere · 14/03/2018 22:40

Afraid not Drink I believe it's another 'woke' university.

It really highlights how the category of man is completely unscathed by gender bullshit. It's almost like people believe that they are fully autonomous biological human beings or something.

VaguelyAware · 14/03/2018 22:49

I have already decided that next time the conversation comes up with DH, I'm trying this argument. As he will struggle to come up with any difference between him & me, apart from biology. Any mention of which is transphobic & exclusionary as we all know... hence why WUKA Period Wear now refer to women as "menstruators". Ugh.

I am also going to ask how can he be absolutely sure of the transgender issue, when he isn't trans himself. He is basing his belief in it on the word of other people. He is also an atheist, & is absolutely confident in his (non) belief, despite all the billions of people in the world who believe in God, under various names.

aRespectableBureaudeChange · 15/03/2018 00:13

I guess these activists expand upon the old 'cogito ergo sum' to include femina somewhere.

Someone mentioned theory of mind yesterday and really it is almost the exact opposite of that - to claim that they know how we actually feel as women, rather than accepting that they can only understand how they 'think' we may feel or behave as women.

Even using best theory of mind they can only say they can imagine how it is to be the opposite sex, not know.

swivelchair · 15/03/2018 06:30

Sorry drink - I have a similar picture from the (brand new at the time) kids science Centre in Malta - the only people with single sex toilet? Men - others were either mixed or accessible (so mixed)

And they were individual cubicles off a corridor, so no reason at all they couldn't have all been mixed.

ElenOfTheWays · 15/03/2018 10:48

VaguelyAware I'd really like to know how that one goes. Even though it's none of my business.

The mental gymnastics I see allies and supporters go through in order to defend their position can be quite fascinating. And scary.

OvaHere those loos are shocking, and yet, somehow, I'm not even surprised. Sad

Marginalised, sidelined, suppressed and ignored. That's a good indication you know you're a woman. Everything TRAs claim to be, but clearly aren't.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 15/03/2018 14:00

so basically the masculinity is sacred and everything else that’s less masculine is the other (might as well all be a woman than). Next time I see such sign in RL I’m off to piss in the men’z.

thebewilderness · 15/03/2018 17:39

Our half of the population has been the default insult for the other half of the population for a thousand years or more. No surprise that they believe a failed man is a woman by default.
That medical professionals would encourage this bizarre belief is a reminder of all the evil done by medical professionals through the years based on bizarre beliefs.
