She was working as a TA at Wilfred Laurier University Ontario.
After showing her class,as a teaching tool, a 4 minute clip of a discussion, previously shown on Canadian TV, between Jordan Peterson and two other academics about the up-and-coming controversial bill C16 forcing people by law to use other people's chosen pronouns, she was summoned to a meeting.
Outnumbered 3 to 1 by tenured professors this young TA did brilliantly and stood her ground.
They lied and bullied her to the point of tears, stitching her up like a kipper, but they didn't know she had taken the brilliant precaution of secretly recording the meeting.
A lesson here for everyone.

I've been following this from the start. She seems to have been adopted by the alt-right now (I don't mean jb) as a poster girl, which is a bit of a shame and she's lost a bit of favour as a result. Her experience was a pretty straightforward example of what happens to anyone who questions anything linked to trans in the academic sector though, even as part of a discussion on grammar...

nauticant · 12/03/2018 14:56

Yes, the courting of publicity in the alt-right context has made me sceptical of her current motives.

This is not to take away from the wrongness of what happened or her need to fight back from a position of relative weakness.

MIngerDynasty · 12/03/2018 16:21

Would the left take up her story though?

MIngerDynasty · 12/03/2018 16:33

Just listening now. If we are going to get rid of freedom of speech I'm hoping "Problematic" is the first word to go.

MIngerDynasty · 12/03/2018 16:49

The way he speaks about 18 year old is ridiculous.

They're fucking adults. We have to treat them like children because they've not got the "tool kit".

MIngerDynasty · 12/03/2018 16:51

I'm surprised they aren't actually how offended by that

terfsRus · 12/03/2018 17:00

I heard that because one of the inquisitors was not tenured AND and ethnic minority some of the press turned it around to make her the villain i.e. her actions cause the 'oppressed' to lose his position (or something). She claims she was a leftie but this episode is making her review her politics.

terfsRus · 12/03/2018 17:01

*an ethnic

MIngerDynasty · 12/03/2018 17:03

She said that she was told she was using her white woman tears against him. Young twenty something year old woman are so powerful.

So much agree!

His views on what ideas are appropriate to teach 18 year olds, did make me wonder what his views on the transitioning of children are. I suspect he believes a person aged 18 and under is capable of knowing their mind for that.

CisPinkHoodie · 12/03/2018 18:31

It's literally NOTHING "like debating whether trans people have rights".
