I originally saw this pic on Twitter so credit goes to the original poster (forget the name) I can’t claim credit for finding this. I posted this in response to another thread but thought it worthy of its own post.

The BFN, renowned for supporting breastfeeding mothers appears to have omitted mothers from the category of users list in a survey they’re running. The first option is a breastfeeding parent and third, parent to be - no mention of Mums.

I’m a bit disappointed that women dont even get a mention yet Dads do. What about two mother families? What about single mother families? What about the fucking mother??????

Is there a phone number we can contact them on? Emails are so often overlooked, I’m going to pull the TRA tactic of phoning every hour with a complaint.

Krakauer · 11/03/2018 10:49

This is horrible Sad

QuentinSummers · 11/03/2018 10:49

Huh. It will be because not all people who breastfeed are women
I wouldn't care if the next line had said "partner of breastfeeding parent".
But it does show up the sexism in the movement

UpstartCrow · 11/03/2018 10:52

Didn't there use to be a handy word or phrase for 'breastfeeding parent'?

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 11/03/2018 11:04

I dont have a problem with

Breastfeeding parent and partner

Stupid fucking wording but ok

I have no problem with

Breastfeeding parent/mother and partner/father

Bit convoluted but fine

I HAVE A MASSIVE FUCKING ISSUE WITH WHAT TEABAGS HAS POSTED!!

Where the actual fuck is the word mother??

Fuckwits...if someone gave them half a brain, they'd still only have half a brain

Its probably just as well my breastfeeding days are over Angry

ICJump · 11/03/2018 11:05

That is bullshit! Please complain

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 11/03/2018 11:06

Alright just found the website

Does anyone know where the form actually is?

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 11/03/2018 11:08

Oh its survey monkey

To be fair the website is covered with mum this mum that

Are we sure its not survey monkey being fuckwits?

GoodyGumdropsT · 11/03/2018 11:13

I think it was me who posted the picture on Twitter (I’ve nc’d To post this - prying eyes etc)

It was a link messaged to me by the breastfeeding network on Facebook messenger after having used their service.

My eyes would roll out of my head if the answers were
1 breastfeeding parent
2 Breastfeeding parent's partner

And I would be unimpressed.

But this is shitty and this makes me angry.
There is a fundemental acceptance that men won't put up with this shit so move over women.

MIngerDynasty · 11/03/2018 12:53

Did the survey. I can assure you as a "breastfeeding parent" of three, if breastfeeding was unrelated to biological sex dh would have bloody done it.

GoodyGumdropsT · 11/03/2018 16:21

I had a response to my query -
“Hi I filled in the questionnaire but can you tell me why there is no option for mother/mum in category of user when there is dad or parent?”

BfN:
“Hi , thanks for completing the questionnaire and for your feedback. Based on responses we have had to previous evaluation we tried to use inclusive language in the survey to reflect the different families that might be using our support. If you have other feedback about the survey or ideas of how we could make changes that would be great. Sarah”

swivelchair · 11/03/2018 16:35

inclusive language in the survey

Clearly haven't read their own survey then - surely it should be breastfeeding mother/parent to match dad/partner...

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 11/03/2018 16:39

goody

Did you just email the website?

qumquat · 11/03/2018 16:41

This makes me so angry. Trying to succeed at breastfeeding nearly killed me. No man/father has ever or will ever go through that.

dorothyparka · 11/03/2018 16:48

So you achieve inclusivity by excluding women? Think I'm getting the hang of this Newspeak nowHmm

GoodygumdropsT · 11/03/2018 16:53

Rufus - I contacted them via Facebook messenger. They have a page on fb. Screenshot attached.

Fluffymule · 11/03/2018 16:54

Wouldn't inclusivity simply involve adding any additional people/terms they felt needed to be embraced rather than excluding existing people/terms instead?

Why is the result of what organisations like this think is positive action involve the erasure of women?

Popchyk · 11/03/2018 17:09

You achieve inclusivity by excluding women. So you cannot mention mother or mum.

You can still keep "dad" though.

So selective inclusivity.

Further proof that the trans lobby only want to erase women, and not men. Otherwise they'd be kicking up a huge fuss about the reference to dad because as we all know dad can be female.

But no, they only want women and mothers gone from the language.

Which rather begs the question if they are identifying as women and women now means "biological women and biological men", then what are they identifying with exactly?

If you erase women, then there's nothing left to identify with, surely?

So the erasure of women is the erasure of transwomen, no?

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 11/03/2018 17:23

I totally agree @Popchyk.

If you erase women, then there's nothing left to identify with, surely? So the erasure of women is the erasure of transwomen, no?

TA are too thick to see that. Plus it’s really got shit all to do with that but rather, as you say, eradicating women’s rights.
