nemno took my line! I was going to say an angry one.

But seriously, probably a socialist one.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 07/03/2018 18:54

I have always been a theoretical feminist... Feminist Social Theory (not a socialist feminist). So conflict theory, gender based - as in gender, the harmful stereotype not the version that seems to equal biological sex in some quarters!

Sort of Foucault with a large sprinkling of salt!

picklemepopcorn · 07/03/2018 18:57

I assumed I was a liberal one, as I'm very live and let live, but then found out that liberal feminists believe men can be women if they say they are.

I'm not one of those, so I must be a radical one. Which surprises me, as I'm quite mellow, really.

picklemepopcorn · 07/03/2018 18:58

Who new it was radical to be gender critical and believe science.

creaturefeatures · 07/03/2018 19:02

I used to be a liberal feminist and then realised I'd basically been partly brainwashed (IMO) by media to accept a toned down version, parts of which I now consider misogynistic.

So...radical now. Probably over the past two years or so I've moved towards radical.

stargirl1701 · 07/03/2018 19:04

Second wave, I think.

Branleuse · 07/03/2018 19:05

A few years ago i did a test and I was some sort of 5th wave sex positive liberal feminist.

I did a test the other day and im now mostly radfem and marxistfem

MongerTruffle · 07/03/2018 19:06

A dictionary definition feminist
feminism - "The advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes."

Babdoc · 07/03/2018 19:09

A very grateful one! When I was born, abortion was illegal, equal pay was a pipe dream, contraception was not provided by the NHS, marital rape was legal, women couldn't get a loan without a male guarantor, all but one of the London medical schools had a 10% quota for female students, girls had to obtain a higher mark than boys to pass the eleven plus exam for grammar school entry, there were no refuges for battered women, women were patronised, groped and mocked with impunity in real life and in the media. It's feminism and the women's movement that have made such progress on all these things.
I think I now have to call myself a radfem, though, as the liberal wing has been hijacked by trans activists.

VaguelyAware · 07/03/2018 19:22

Marxist / Radical, apparently. I did one of those online test things, for fun.

wonderstuff · 07/03/2018 19:28

I’m a radical feminist, I believe that capitalism is structurally in conflict to female equality and family, I think biology is fundamental to current inequality and it’s not enough that women are allowed to compete with men in a patriarchal society but that traditional female roles need to have much higher status but can’t see that happening in the current structures. I’m getting angrier the older I get.

thebewilderness · 07/03/2018 19:33

I am a member of the political movement for women's liberation.
I am old enough to remember that when boys and men said "girls can't" it was true.
I "identify" as a "raggedy old second wave feminist" so as to avoid confusing the younglings and the splitters.

WhereYouLeftIt · 07/03/2018 19:38

My feminism dates from when there really was only one 'flavour', Women's Lib. I believe that is now regarded as Second Wave or Radical. i've read nothing of the new-fangled Grin liberal feminism to make me think it's an improvement, quite the opposite.

FallenforTom · 07/03/2018 19:40

Feminist. Huge concerns about self ID but not a TERF. I can't get het up about the use of Ms or women wanting to take the surname of their husband. Very happy for women to do what they want in that regard even though I know the basis behind it.

Don't give a shit that my local 65+ aged shopkeeper calls me 'my girl' and I'm 40. He calls men 'my boy' too.

I think we've already lost the self-ID trans battle and that disturbs me but I don't believe it will result in some of the catastrophic stuff I saw on another thread - women not going out etc.

doctorcuntybollocks · 07/03/2018 19:52

I'm an angry feminist. Fortunately, I'm beautiful when I'm angry.

Rottweilers · 07/03/2018 21:06

Thank you everyone who replied! Like I say it’s my first post in here (feminist chat) and just wanted to get a feel around the forum really. I appreciate it !

Formerly would have called myself a liberal feminist. Pushed into defining as radfem by the transagenda. It's helped me crystallise my feelings snd get angry. It's been cathartic, actually.

thanksjaneshusbandatcaresouth · 07/03/2018 21:14

Just feminist.

I think that some people would call me a “ liberal feminist” but I don’t like being labelled and then told what I do/do not believe according to someone else’s label.so just feminist

2rebecca · 07/03/2018 21:25

I don't understand the different labels. I'm just feminist who believes women are equal to men and deserve equal rights and pay for the same jobs and equal opportunities. We are a bit different to men due to having XX chromosomes but many differences are due to socialisation.

Men can't become women and men who want to be women are just unhappy with the sexual stereotyping of our society and often have body dysmorphia. Men who think they are women and don't wish to change their bodies are deluded or trying to enter women's spaces for bad personal gain reasons

JellySlice · 07/03/2018 21:31

I don't know what the labels mean. I think that, even if I did, I wouldn't subscribe to any labelled philosophy or faction. I feel it may be doctrinaire, and that is dangerous.

I definitely am gender-critical, but I don't think that has anything to do with being a feminist.

OKMaybeIAmATERF · 07/03/2018 21:40

One too ignorant about feminist theory to know, in all honesty - but people who throw TERF around as an insult clearly include me.

Does anyone have a favourite book that compares and contrasts kinds of feminist thought? Or even a favourite online quiz?

RealityHasALiberalBias · 07/03/2018 21:56

Radical, Marxist.

NotTerfNorCis · 07/03/2018 21:58

Until quite recently I would have said liberal, but that was before I found out about intersectionalism and identity politics. Now I don't know.

Ereshkigal · 07/03/2018 22:03

I agree. I think I am calling myself a liberal feminist in hindsight, but in the past I would have just called myself a feminist.

hipsterfun · 07/03/2018 22:17

I "identify" as a "raggedy old second wave feminist" so as to avoid confusing the younglings and the splitters.

Very considerate of you, thebewilderness Smile

Although I call it radfem-adjacent as my main priority is social class.

LangCleg, I’ve never heard it described like that. I’d say similar, though for me it’s class and environment; radfem feels like a natural consequence.
