Women and crime statistics - increase in sex crimes?

shedalight · 06/03/2018 14:19

Daily mail article:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5465541/Record-number-women-convicted-sex-crimes-Britain.html

Some 142 women were guilty of sex offences in 2016 – almost double the 74 convicted two years earlier and more than triple the number at the start of the decade

There's a disgraceful rise in the number of adults working in schools convicted of abuse. I wonder whether there are any other reasons for this increase. Might those familiar with crime statistics have an idea?

First question, how many of them were born female?

LifelongVaginaOwner · 06/03/2018 14:25

At least the 6 that were convicted of rape

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 06/03/2018 14:27

E.g., I note that 6 of these 'women' were convicted of rape. In the UK, for an offence to be categorised as rape, it has to involve a penis. So either these six offenders were involved in assisting a rape by a male person, or (much more likely) they used their own penis to commit rape despite identifying as a woman and showing up as a female sex offender in the stats.

Cross post

No, I think rape can also refer to having sex with someone who is underage - regardless of sex., In other words, a female teacher having sex with underage boy or girl pupil. Because being underage means that there is no consent.

I also understand that being in a position of responsibility means that the usual age of consent doesn't apply. So the pupil can be 16 and it is still rape.

Complicit with a male abuser perhaps?

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 06/03/2018 14:35

Sexual offences act 2003

Rape

(1)A person (A) commits an offence if—
(a)he intentionally penetrates the vagina, anus or mouth of another person (B) with his penis,
(b)B does not consent to the penetration, and
(c)A does not reasonably believe that B consents.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 06/03/2018 14:37

Having sex with someone underage comes under 'sexual activity with a child'

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 06/03/2018 14:37

Rape has to be committed by a penis owner man

The under age school thing could be inciting a person under the age of consent to commit a sexual act? Maybe?

LifelongVaginaOwner · 06/03/2018 14:38

You have to have a penis to be convicted of rape

LangCleg · 06/03/2018 14:38

Six were convicted of rape, 37 of sexual activity with or involving a child, one of sexual grooming, 35 for internet child pornography offences and four for exposure and voyeurism.

We can pretty much guarantee the 4 exposure/voyeurism ones were TIMs, too.

BarrackerBarmer · 06/03/2018 14:39

Categorically NO.

In UK law rape specifically is with a penis.

It is different in other countries, but explicitly defined in the UK as with a penis.

BarrackerBarmer · 06/03/2018 14:42

£100 says that male 'women' comprise a shockingly high proportion of those 142 women.

And certainly they will be represented many times higher than their statistical proportion within the category 'women'

shedalight · 06/03/2018 15:01

I wonder why the Ministry of Justice haven't commented on the surprising number of 'women' being convicted of rape?
And are these 142 different women or are some of these offences from the same offender?

Interesting that the stats are just accepted with little or no questioning of them?

'Transwomen are women' ladypenis and all, I suppose

BartholinsSister · 06/03/2018 15:13

I guess a woman could push a man's penis into someone's vagina, anus, or mouth.

LadyMcLadyCrisps · 06/03/2018 15:36

In saw this article this morning and a chill ran down my spine, I immediately thought of what some of you here (wiser than myself) have warned us about, the possibility of TIMs being categorised as women who have committed sex crimes. Whilst obviously there are Bio women on this list, these stats need breaking down one by one to get to the truth. My sincere belief is that the rise is no coincidence, I will be very interested to see the results of a full investigation of these figures!

TheVastMajority · 06/03/2018 15:47

there is some information here - although it also includes transvestites.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 06/03/2018 15:50

Given that 10,911 offences were committed by men, the male perpetrators of fewer than 0.07% of offences would need to identify as women in order to double the rate of offences committed by 'women'

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 06/03/2018 15:50

Yes, it’s so insidious isn’t it? I read that article at first perfectly prepared to believe that it was possible the crime might have increased in part due to a changing of attitudes to older women having sex with teenage boys (quite rightly). But then I got to the ‘Rape’ stat and the penny dropped. How many readers will unquestioningly accept that as true? Gradually, otherwise perfectly reasonable people, will begin to think women can and do rape. Then, and I’m thinking of a particular poster on MN, there will be more and more people coming on threads here amongst other places, saying ‘Ah, but women do it too’ ‘BWDIT’, and they’ll really believe it. And it will become de facto. Gradually, slowly.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 06/03/2018 15:53

Oops, I mean 0.7

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 06/03/2018 15:53

Awesome comments

Women are just as bad as men

And

Infact the numbers of women who abuse are far higher but men are far far less likely to report them through embarassment and other reasons.

Are two personal 'highlights' Sad

BlindYeo · 06/03/2018 16:02

transcrimeuk.com/2016-convictions/

Transcrime has 18 sex offence convictions listed for 2016

loveyouradvice · 06/03/2018 16:05

Go on.... post in the comments... people do read them and we need to start transpeaking people - even just the rapes only being by penis is enough to shock!
