What on earth is going to happen to women?

I’m actually really worried. In the past couple of weeks I’ve seen Theresa May’s speech on how being transgender is not an illness, on how they will be given equal rights including access to vinerable women’s spaces. I’ve seen labour following suit, criticising Margaret Thatchers speech about homosexuality and likening it to the transgender movement, saying they won’t get it wrong. It’s not the same at all! What is going to happen to women in all this? It seems their rights will be pushed to one side and I’m actually rather worried. Can enough of us stand up to be heard?

Yes, we need to keep going with the awareness raising and building a movement. No one will vote for this. Labour has gone crazy.

bellasuewow · 04/03/2018 23:04

Thank you datun, I was hoping you would turn up to this thread.

RavenBrow · 04/03/2018 23:06

Sounds like a stubborn post-apocalyptic view of things. That's not the case where I live and like I (and others) have said, look to the past for comparison. Total progress doesn't happen overnight, you will be disappointed to raise such high expectations and focus purely on negative.

Datun · 04/03/2018 23:08

RavenBrow

What part of everything I have written do you think is progressive, exactly?

BarrackerBarmer · 04/03/2018 23:10

Imagine this, Datun:

Pick a marginal seat. Crewe & Nantwich. Labour, but won by a margin of 48 votes.

You reckon we could find enough pissed off labour voting women to throw that result? In our sleep, mate.
So, we ask Laura Smith MP just how much she wants our votes. Enough to declare her support for sex not gender?

Or, we don't negotiate upfront. We just do it as a show of strength.
We just flip all the marginal seats, just to demonstrate that we CAN, and we publicise what we are doing, and wait for the negotiations.

It almost doesn't matter which party we mess around with, so long as they realise we can do it to any of them we choose. So long as they realise we have the means and the motive to change results.

That will be enough to scare the gender neutral pants off them all. Nothing scarier than an organised mass of motivated people. There are 33 million females in the UK. We only need a fraction of the engaged, gender critical active voters to decide fine, I'm in, and we can do really astonishing stuff.

RavenBrow · 04/03/2018 23:12

Men are naturally stronger than women in some way, so in those fields women will always be met with challenge from the overinflated neanderthal male ego. It's just nature and some things can't be changed, it's how we deal with them.

Datun · 04/03/2018 23:13

I think we should negotiate upfront. Very earnestly. No threats. It just creates intransigence.

How do we get to the women?

BarrackerBarmer · 04/03/2018 23:19

12 million unique users a month?

Yes, men are stronger than women. They know it and we know it.

They are constantly telling us. Rape, porn, prostitution, domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment.

But a 19-year-old boy didn't get to be women's officer because he beat up a woman. He doesn't need to.

The inherent dominance is a result of everyone knowing that men can whup women.

Men are socialised from the minute they are born to feel entitled to things that aren't theirs.

And women are socialised to be nice about it.

But none of that would work without the inherent power dynamic based on strength. We'd just tell them to fuck off.

But women aren't listened to. That's not because they are inherently less interesting or not informed!

It's because men consider themselves, and each other, more important and consider women to be lesser than. They couldn't enforce that if they were half our size and a third of our strength.

Datun · 04/03/2018 23:21

BarrackerBarmer

Haha!

But we'll have to find women living in those constituencies, won't we? You'll have to talk me through this, I don't do politics very well.

BarrackerBarmer · 04/03/2018 23:21

dozens of existing secret social media groups?

anonymous twitter networks?

We're already pretty good at secret networking.

The fools have already driven us underground and made us adept at organising secretly. Dopey buggers.

Datun · 04/03/2018 23:24

I'm in.

UpstartCrow · 04/03/2018 23:24

Meanwhile I hear the chocolate ration has been increased to 30 grams a week!

Boxesandbuttons · 04/03/2018 23:26

The people going to visit their MP is definitely going to help. Do this if you haven't already. Explain your concerns about safeguarding, the equality act and subjective belief as law. If you have felt scared or threatened about speaking up, say so. Also make clear how much this will impact your vote and that you are telling EVERYONE.

Truscum · 04/03/2018 23:31

I do think being very vocal about it in real life is very effective as something you can do daily to feel like you’re helping. Obviously only if you feel safe to do so.

This last month alone I’ve peak transed a doctor, two more colleagues and a variety of far flung family members (weddings are perfect 😂)

You can see the instant it hits. The dawning of ‘What the fuck?! This is really happening?’

And you know you’ve got a new ally when they start gaping at their phone after pulling it out for a quick google to see if what you are saying is really true.

Truscum · 04/03/2018 23:33

I figure it’s like a domino effect.

Once you’ve peaked it’s almost impossible to keep quiet about it, and the outrage only ever builds up.

RavenBrow · 04/03/2018 23:35

Hm all very twisted and strange here. I will address the original question and rewire my answer accordingly to become more pleasing.
'What on earth is going to happen to women?'
We will lose all rights that have been gained over the past century and return to being slaves to men in all aspects. In summary, the inferior sex who are no longer allowed to become Vice Chancellors or successful business women.

2rebecca · 04/03/2018 23:50

I don't think it will be that bad. Most folk in the UK are sensible and here in Scotland transexuals are still an exotic breed who I don't think are going to take over the world any time soon. Women in sport and prisons will have a hard time of it for a few years until the world sees sense . I do think our views will prevail, but I'm an optimist.
I do think the BBC and the media can be persuaded.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 04/03/2018 23:51

There's a quote from West Wing going round my head reading this (brilliant) thread.
"The women's vote isnt just half your constituency. It's the entire margin of victory."

OlennasWimple · 05/03/2018 00:05

Women in sport and prisons will have a hard time of it for a few years until the world sees sense

Things will have to get much worse before we reach that point: sports bodies in particular still seem to be on the "brave and inspiring TIM" bit of the change curve, not hurtling along the "WTF" peak trajectory.

I genuinely think that it will take a fatality (or a few) to get people to wake up and appreciate the horror of what they have done in the name of supposed progress

Elletorro · 05/03/2018 00:05

Where are the marginals? We start with 1 and put posters in every women’s toilets. Hand out flyers at school drop off. Old school tactics. Doorstep. I would travel anywhere.

FfsFrieda · 05/03/2018 03:25

I don’t really want to post my location but I’m in a marginal seat and willing to help out any way I can.

FfsFrieda · 05/03/2018 03:27

Would it be a good idea to get together and get some key facts/concerns up on a poster that we could all print off and start putting in all women’s toilets, changing rooms etc?

thebewilderness · 05/03/2018 04:12

I think both Datun and Guardian Lion wrote something up. I am sure they will be glad to share.

Cuntysnark · 05/03/2018 06:06

I’m another one who will do anything to help.
