twitter

Another seemingly AGP male (in a relationship with TIF) attempting to take a place intended for a woman (probably a lesbian woman) in an official position in a national organisation.

Any students on here able to look at this person’s manifesto on the nus website? On the public section they say;

As your LGBT+ Officer Womens Place, I will prioritise LGBT+ women’s issues such as access to women loving women spaces, worker’s rights and struggles, and ending violence against women.

A TIM ran for NUS women's officer last year and lost. I remember the election of the first ever NUS women's officer. For several years the post always ensured a lesbian on the NEC and debates in university unions about having a Men's officer as well...

Anna Lee was the TIM who ran for Women's Officer last year.

Was promptly put on the Jo Cox Women in Leadership programme though.

That Twitter says that there are two TIMs in the running for the LGBT+ Women's Place role. The other one is Beth Douglas.

Beth Douglas is the current LGBT+ Women's Place Officer for the NUS.

Yep, the post reserved for women is currently filled by a man.

I had to laugh.

Look at the leadership in most national and international LGBT(Alphabet Soup) groups. A huge number of them are white, straight, able bodied men who were or still are married, who identified as 'women' as adults. There has been an intentional, targeted take over. Unsurprisingly, these groups are now working on erasing and redefining all lesbian provision, such as reducing lesbian women in seats, removing lesbian women speakers and slots, speaking out against lesbian women and their 'hateful' denying transwomen access to their bodies etc etc etc.

Systematic colonization, hostile takeover.

Apparently the NUS LGBT+ students have severed ties with Student Pride for not being inclusive enough.

www.telegraph.co.uk/education/2018/01/23/national-union-students-accuses-student-pride-run-cis-white/

I suspect that LGBT+ feels that Student Pride is too gay and not transgender enough.

GollyGoshGreat · 04/03/2018 13:23

Sorry for the typo in the title. I hadn’t realised the incumbent is TIM.

As for Student Pride not being inclusive - why the fuck should they? Sound so homophobic to me.

What actually is the "LGBT+ Women's Place Officer"?

I thought that there was a Women's Officer AND an LGBT+ Officer?

As far as I understand it, there are four different categories:

www.nusconnect.org.uk/elected-officers

  • Women's Officer
  • Trans Officer
  • LGBT+ Officer (Open Space), which is open to men and women
  • LGBT+ Officer (Women's Place), open only to women. I'm guessing this was originally intended to give women representation because the LGBT has traditionally been dominated by men. And yes, I am seeing the irony there.

Men who claim to identify as women seem to be able to identify their way into applying for every single one of these.
