InfiniteSheldon · 04/03/2018 00:29

You haven't posted an opinion just a link why?

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 04/03/2018 00:29

The only other publication to report this is Pink Penis News

surprisingly good article for the fail though.

TERFclick · 04/03/2018 00:33

My opinion is that it is the fail, bashing the left and feminists. It is also very good that the public is informed. Is that ok for you?

Heather came out of that well, which is good.

"The Mail on Sunday understands that the party received several complaints about the academic’s comments on the programme, including one from a man who identifies as a woman."

Note, not reporting trans woman, reporting man who identifies as a woman.

Terfclick, that's Sanchez Manning. He always uses this blessedly clear language in his reporting on trans issues for the Mail on Sunday, and it makes SUCH a difference. It really shows how important it is for feminists to reject the neologism 'transwoman'.

A 'man who identifies as a woman' highlights the absurdity of gender identity ideology, and points to the power dynamics at work, whereas 'trans woman/transwoman' obscures them (as it is designed to do).

InfiniteSheldon · 04/03/2018 06:33

Good that the Mail has reported this but I found the article really strange. A factual headline and first few paragraphs highlighting the absurdity of the WEP but then very odd. The 'came to blows' has enraged me. No, a sixty year old woman was punched a man. The article seemed to change half way through but at least it's on the front page.

Patodp · 04/03/2018 07:05

When I first joined the Women’s Equality Party, I thought it was going to be revolutionary and that we would all be free of gender because it is a restrictive, socially constructed concept

But now the party is acting as if biology is a social invention and gender is inherent in a person from birth

I didn’t sign up to that. I feel betrayed

This is exactly what is going on in universities, The Green Party, Lib Dems, Labour are heading this way, in Medical institutions....

The more people know this is going on the better because it's sneaking in under the radar, anyone objecting is sacked, forced out, threatened, bullied into silence, slurred, attacked....

Patodp · 04/03/2018 07:07

infinitshell tbf the "came to blows" comment is followed by the line "a 60 year woman was punched in the face" there's no attempt to victim blame there.

swivelchair · 04/03/2018 07:54

"a 60 year woman was punched in the face"

It's still that mysterious perpetrator though.. which is frustrating, but perhaps the article isn't long enough

Bindell's getting some soundbites out though:

But this is another example of “Trans Taliban” hardliners silencing free speech and attempting to take control of an institution that was set up for the benefit of women – not men who say they are women.

Snappy phrasing to stick in casual reader's minds, plus plain common sense is an effective tactic.

SwearyG · 04/03/2018 08:07

I agree InfiniteSheldon re the came to blows comment. The article says the two sides clashed at a demonstration which doesn’t tell the story at all. The women were there because the TRAs had caused a venue to withdraw space for a meeting of WPUK and had to meet somewhere to find the location of the meeting, and were met with protests and violence from the TRAs. Hardly a bloody demonstration. The papers should be covering the intimidation of venues into closing down our meetings and the need to keep locations secret. A demonstration my arse.

InfiniteSheldon · 04/03/2018 08:28

Also it's self i.d. by the backdoor calling Lily a trans woman when Lily has no GRC and is living as a particularly nasty vocal TRA making no attempt to live as an actual real woman. I'm interpreting it well but surely Lily can best be described as experimenting, at 19 there simply hasn't been the time to become a transwoman.

InfiniteSheldon · 04/03/2018 08:28

I liked the trans Taliban line it encapsulates so much.

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 04/03/2018 10:36

The incident at speakers corner is waiting for a court date so there is probably a limit to what they can report.

BetsyM00 · 04/03/2018 11:34

I started to do this recently as well - a man who (self) identifies as a woman. Bit longer to write, but so much clearer. I think that's why Twitter gave us all those extra characters!
