International Women's Day event

Wondered if anyone in or around London would be interested in this event next week on International Women's Day?

www.facebook.com/events/145762909452360/

From what I've seen there are many injustices in the family courts, with violent fathers being given custody of their children, denying victims of domestic violence and their children protection. I remember the Women's Aid research, 19 child homicides and I know in several of those cases, the violent man was given access to the children they killed by judges in the family courts.

I really feel that many more mothers and children are at risk from violent ex partners. Surely there must be some way to make the family courts open while still protecting the identity of the children involved?

Can anyone point me to where else on MN would be a good place to post this? I thought feminist chat would be the place because women (some victims of rape and violence) are having their children given to their violent partners and having their experiences dismissed, but nobody's responded. Anyone that's been here a while, would be glad if you could give me some ideas as to where else this should go? Thanks.

Maybe in Chat more generally?

I agree it is an important issue.

Thank you for posting. I'm going through this now. I wanted to reply earlier but had to go out and just been looking in Chat for it so yes, it could go there ☺

Hi Njordsgrrrl, sorry you're going through the family courts at the moment. I've posted this in chat too with the title 'Family courts on trial'.

I've luckily never had to go through the family courts, but many of the people I come into contact with via work have and are, and I've been appalled at how awful some of their situations are. They are quite unbelievable, and I think because of the closed courts people don't realise how bad things are. Hopefully this event will shine a light on how things drastically need to change. Good luck with your situation Flowers
