Garrick Club

In the spirit of the wonderful poster who is taking on Swim England, does anyone fancy self-identifying into the all male Garrick Club? There are a few others which we could find and all attempt to join.

Dear Sir / Madam,

I would like a membership form in order to join the Garrick Club. While I present as female and have retained my female name, I identify as male.

Under self identification laws, currently being discussed and adopted by many organisations including Swim England and the Labour Party, as well as the International Olympic Committee, self identification is all that is required to be allowed to join a club, enter a (previously) sex segregated space or sport and be viewed, legally, as the opposite sex.

While born a heterosexual female, and in spite of having given birth to two children, my body is now (in my mind) a male body. Thus, I would like to join your club so that I can surround myself with other men.

Can you also confirm that, as other transmen younger than I will wish to join, there are adequate facilities for the management of my MENstruation?

I'd love to see what response you get if you send that. Maybe be more subtle though. Scare them into thinking you're serious.

Already sent. But why don't you try a more serious approach?

The thing is, I don't wish them ill. I think they will know that. But I do want to test them out.

Couldn't see any details on their site on how to apply for membership. But according to this the fee is £1000. And there are rather a lot of men-only clubs to try if you are feeling rich!

I'll do some googling later and find some other all-men clubs to email. Will be quite telling to see what their response is, even if they simply ignore.

a lot of the male only clubs require you to be nominated by existing members, rather than just apply ifswim, so you'd need someone on the inside to be supportive.

I live so far from London, it could cost a tenner and it wouldn't be worth it. But, I assume they will reply and might be forced to discuss it at a committee meeting which means powerful men will have to consider the implications of self id.

Anyone got any other clubs? I have played cricket (once, with a tennis ball) does that give me the option of Lords?

You could also enquire at boys' schools about how to register your daughter in case she decides to self-id at a later stage.

I spoke to high ups in the Lloyds of London Yacht Club about this and the stupid RYA rules, which mirror the Swimming UK rules and their response was "its all going too far".

Common sense is out there.

I suggest we organise a day of consciousness raising action where all women use men's facilities for a day. We simply say " I am a man" and enter whatever place we want.

You have to be proposed.
