Prostitution - well said, Jeremy Hardy

Jeremy Hardy often irritates me with his Islingtonism, but he was bloody brilliant on last weekend's News Quiz link - about 1 minute in, discussing the Oxfam scandal, backed up by Helen Lewis. He skewers the Belle du Jour happy hooker myth and how it's used as cover for abuse.

Watch out, Jeremy, the SWERF police will be after you..

That’s funny because I actually went off JH after reading a piece in The Scotsman about Mark Steel’s son, in which MS relates the following anecdote:

“When Elliot was 14,” says Mark, “we went to Jeremy’s house for dinner. He had some friends around who were not comics. And one woman asked Jeremy to pass the salad and he said, ‘Get it yourself, you c*.’ “One of the other guests said: ‘Jeremy! Elliott’s here, he is only 14!’ At which point Jeremy went up to Elliot, put his arm round him and said, ‘Bit of advice Elliot … never kill a prostitute without an alibi.’”

Hmm

Plus he’s a crashing lefty bore of a comedian these days; predictable and smug. Probably always was but after a couple of decades he’s really grating on my nerves.

I listened to this in the gym tonight and agree JH (whose politics I don't always agree with but who I find v funny) and the other panellists were spot on.

That is the first time in a long time I've agreed with anything Jeremy Hardy has said. I usually disagree with him even if he is saying something I agree with (if that makes sense)

I went off him a long time ago over some claptrap about Sinn Fein/IRA.

Totally agree Lass - he sets my teeth on edge. That's why I was so surprised that he didn't jump in to defend Oxfam and women's "right" to -be raped sex workers.
