If all this trans stuff continues to prevail plus an increase in gay men getting married and having more 'heteronormative' lives I think surrogacy is going to be a hot topic in a decade or so. Even more so if women start to see it as a viable option beyond infertility or medical reasons.
There was an AIBU thread about Tom Daley and his husband announcing the imminent birth of their child that got quite heated. It's quite hard to have proper debate about with being accused of trans or homophobia.
It's another area in which feelings outweigh autonomy and bodily safety of women.
I think there have in the past been instances where women have made an altruistic choice to be a surrogate whether for strangers or a friend/family member. I think if my sister or closet female friend had been in this situation it's something I would have considered doing for them out of love.
It worries me that it's becoming a big supply and demand business which will push women into doing it for all the same reasons women go into porn and prostitution.
It all feels like another step closer to A Handmaids Tale.
