Can you teach 'feminism' without provoking a back lash from boys and their parents?
I don't explicitly teach feminism but the approach in PSHE is about equality and facilitating discussions.
I was very surprised in sex and relationships ed that so many of the class were quite gender criticial. The boys in particular were very vocal about consent and why both parties need to be enthusiastic about whatever acts they were going to do. Girls challenged the ideas of girls/women as passive pretty figures waiting to be asked out.
Same when we looked at mental health. Lots were concerned about hypermasculinity and the impact on boys' mental health.
Whilst the 18-24 group at the moment seems to be all pink brain blue brain, the 13-16 year olds I've heard seem like they've had enough of it all.
