Just to say right off that I'm not a follower of Astrology and I apologise to anyone I inadvertently offend by using incorrect terminology, but I would welcome your expertise!

I have been reading a bit about the transition to The Age of Aquarius and the way in which the world will change.

Initially I think sounds quite positive for women - moving from an Age where we need to find someone or something external to believe in to guide us how to live within structures and hierarchies, to an Age where self-identification and internal knowledge eliminates the need for dependence on others to validate or define us.

Have I over simplified it? Is this transition going to benefit women?

What transition is that exactly? And why are you talking about it as something that "is" going to happen?

Wasn't there a song about that in the 70s?

LangCleg · 16/02/2018 09:14

self-identification and internal knowledge eliminates the need for dependence on others to validate or define us

From what I see in the current discourse, self-identification and internal knowledge creates an absolute and total dependence on others to validate or define us and the failure of others to do so leads to paroxysms of narcissistic rage at best and physical violence at worst.

Astrology is bunkum anyway.

Wasn't there a song about that in the 70s?

It's quite prominent in the 40 year old Virgin movie. Grin

There's no transition, because astrology is bullshit, so we're fucked.

Igneococcus · 16/02/2018 09:26

I loved that song as a child since this is my star sign. I don't believe in astrologie at all though.
I'll be having that tune in my head all morning now.

Babycham1979 · 16/02/2018 09:36

Well, it’s a good job astrology is a load of old bollocks, or I’d be worried. This fantasy future society of yours sounds like Jacob Rees-Mogg’s wet dream. No state, no structures, just an individualistic free for all. Oh, great(!) It may well be good for women, but only if they step-up and stop worrying about things like welfare, healthcare, legal protection, education etc etc etc

Isn't this thread 40+ years too late? I associate the Age of Aquarius stuff with the late 60s through mid seventies, so unless there's been an announcement about a delay either we're already in it or it's come and gone.

Lweji · 16/02/2018 10:09

Hold on...

"The official beginning of the Aquarian Age is November 11, 2011 or 11/11/11. Some people have set this date as December 21, 2012. Considering that this is a 2000 year cycle, no matter which date you accept, we are in for lots of change in the near future!"

Well, I'm sure in the next 2000 years there will be a lot of change.

I wouldn't hold my breath for anything any time soon.
We'll have to wait for 4012 to see what happened. Wink

I find these threads difficult to know how to respond to and still be nice.
Astrology is bunkum.
Feminism is rooted in logic, ethics, fairness and science.

I don't care if someone else holds a religious faith as long as it doesn't impact women's rights (most do though)
but I get twitchy when people associate woo with feminism because its important to me that it doesn't gain associations with myths.

Didactylos · 16/02/2018 10:48

the age of aquariums?
is that when global warming and rising sea levels finally kick in?

Valentinesfart · 16/02/2018 13:28

Well, it's a damn catchy song but I don't suppose it will be much use otherwise.

BlindAssassin1 · 16/02/2018 17:58

If you're into such things, it's been explained to me that it is a slow transition, that things wont flip instantly to what the OP describes, that there is a change from masculine yang energy to more female yin energy. In fact, it has been suggested that this is a period of disharmony and many men will find it very frightening and its also why we are having a surge in the trans rights issues, 'men' breastfeeding' etc.

However, un-fucking surprisingly, waffty woo discourses have also been used to shit on women from a great height as much as any other. And I've also been told that women have weak energy and vampirically sap men's force. Also that lesbians are out of harmony with nature.

Make of it what you will. Most of its utter shite peddled by some ass hat with a grubby man bun and wooden beads bought off etsy, mansplaining to you that you're chakras need detoxing because the earth is out of harmony.

Also: science. That's stuffs pretty good. It keeps you alive.

AngryAttackKittens · 16/02/2018 22:19

I'm hoping that the age of at least some aquariums will soon be over and we as a species can stop abducting orcas and making them perform tricks in too small pools until they lose their minds and start killing people a la Tillikum.

LassWiADelicateAir · 16/02/2018 22:23

Hear , hear AngryAttackKittens.

Husband and I are ashamed that we went to one in Florida. It was 24 years ago but even then we should have known better.

AngryAttackKittens · 16/02/2018 22:27

I was taken to one when I was about 8 or 9 and still regret it.

LassWiADelicateAir · 16/02/2018 22:29

You were 8. I was 34 so I have no excuse.

CaptainWarbeck · 16/02/2018 23:05

That song. I now have a mental image of Steve Carell and your wan flying around on magic unicorns.
