Transgender breast feeding

I'm horrified this is being reported uncritically.

Oh and apparently it's transphobic to ask if this means men can breastfeed.

Noone can prove a thing didn't happen!

The onus of proof is upon the authors to demonstrate HOW they know such a fantastical claim is true.

If I published a paper saying "A mumsnetter orbitted the moon today and returned home in time for tea", the onus is not upon others to prove that this didn't happen, but upon me to demonstrate how I am certain of this claim, and why, if I have evidence that this happened, I failed to disclose it in my paper.

Science reporting is shocking these days.
I can't believe how many newspapers have written about this when the paper says nothing more than "this thing happened, we were told"

However, Reisman said the case has also attracted questions about whether men could now breastfeed. “That, implicitly, is saying that you see transgender women as cisgender men, which is transphobic,” she said."

I have read this sentence five times and still don't understand it Confused

Does anyone follow Association of Breast Feeding Mothers on Facebook? They've just posted the romper article on this with no analysis- is anyone knowledgeable enough and brave enough to comment and ask them their views on the ethics issues raised by this?

Using children in this way is just about as repulsive as it gets for me, that poor baby being used as a pawn by medics and a prop for validation by the couple who's supposed to be raising them. I'm so saddened that to please a few loud mouthed TRA's everything and everyone is fair game.

Oh and I stopped reading the guardian a while ago now courtesy of some of the misogynist shit they were writing, looking at you Jones.

HandbagKrabby · 15/02/2018 16:47

Barracker that is absolutely disgraceful. I wrongly assumed that the study was based on something that had happened under medical supervision.

You couldn’t make this up, oh wait you can and you can then claim that the first transgender woman has breastfed, but not the first man has breastfed as that would be transphobic and not being transphobic is far more important than telling the truth regarding medical firsts.

I hope very much history looks back on this period as a bit of ‘political correctness gone mad’ blip and not the start of The Handmaid’s Tale but with transgender wives.

Bbc now reporting on it.
