Consultation on self id

I've been trying to find out when or if the consultation that Justine Greening promised will actually be put out. The government have been very quiet on the issue, we only hear it discussed if questioned directly like Andrew Marr. Seeing Corbyn squirm on the issue was quite revealing. The issue is kept alive by controversies like transgender womens officers, or very non political issues like trans people in changing rooms, vile prisoners looking for transfer to womens jails, speculation transgender women will be employed in womens refuges without a GRC, etc.

Has it been kicked into the long grass? Were they not even serious in the first place? Or is it quietly rumbling on beneath the Brexit chaos topping all the headlines atm?

I was confused yesterday watching the BBC news video about how do you define a woman because it closed saying there was a government consultation happening. When?

Scotland are going ahead with theirs but Westminster don't seem to be doing much ChattyLion.

Westminster do seem to have kicked their consultation into the long grass, but you don't have to live in Scotland to participate in the Holyrood consultation. Please do respond to the Scottish consultation, some aspects of which do affect the potential to affect the rest of the UK.

Do have the potential!

Sorry, kitten jumping on my shoulders is playing havoc with my typing!

I think Scotland’s will be the only consultation you will get. England and Wales trans people will be able to get a Scottish GRC and the UK govt will ratify it. Self ID is coming via the back door unless we all fill in the Scottish consultation. Tell them that women in the rest of the uk will/ can be impacted by this without ever having had a say. Please!

They originally said it would be last autumn but there's still no sign of it. I wouldn't rule out them doing it in the Spring but I guess the longer it goes on, the less it looks like a good idea. It's not like they don't have enough to keep them busy!

Can't British and Scottish people already get a self ID certificate anyway by going to Ireland? Ireland already implemented it...

I hadn't really considered this. Off to 'consult' !

The last consultation they did was with trans rights groups, and they wrote off the evidence from Womens Aid and the prison service.

Patodp that’s a really interesting point - I don’t know if the UK recognises GRCs from other countries currently.
