NAMALT etc but this made me SO ANGRY.

The men quoted in the article have zero care at all what this means for the women.

I KNOW that when my DH friends were younger they would have watched clips like this and laughed over them together.

I would be really keen to hear if anyone has any ideas about why so many men, NAMALT, have so little concern for women?

I have to say that I'm coming around to a way of thinking that lots of men seem to only care about women and girls they personally know and love - which I suppose is why we get all this "it's someone's daughter" stuff - and that women and girls as a sort of global group, mass of people, are a bit 2D and not really worthy of being treated as full people.

I am aware this is strong but this story has made me So Angry.

I can imagine loads of men I know looking up a Kate Middleton "porn" clip for eg just out of interest or for a laugh or for a naughty feeling wank... I know people will come on and say NAMALT but it's a lot of them isn't it.

What I am interested in is WHY so many men see this sort of thing as essentially "harmless"?

I recently challenged a very senior (straight, white, middle aged) man at work who was giving a group of women a presentation about diversity (off to a good start, eh??). He fancied himself quite the feminist ally for his involvement in a scheme called Dads4Daughters whose aim is to capitalise on the late onset realisation that some men (NAMALT) have that their daughters will grow up to be women, and don't deserve to be treated the way that these men may have previously treated women.

He had shown his commitment to the cause by taking two hours off work to go to his daughter's sports day, and had then emailed photos of it round his whole team, who all thought him a jolly good chap for so doing.

I mildly asked him if he thought that a mum doing the same thing would get the same response.

He didn't even understand the question He just blustered "but why wouldn't she get the same reaction? We're all parents, aren't we? The point is that dads get to be involved just as much as mums"

So much missing the point, I couldn't even...

So yes, I fundamentally mistrust the "do it for your daughters, sisters, wives, mothers!" because a) how badly were they treating women before that they need to do this?; b) we're all someone's daughter or sister or wife; and c) it doesn't drive the right behaviours anyway, because all those other women who aren't daughter/wife/sister etc still don't count as human. And so - deepfake. Because most women are still objects.

My DD came home from school a few weeks ago talking about some of the boys at school having apps on their phones that do this. The girls are on high alert trying to make sure that no-one can take a photo of their faces to use on the app. My DD is only 13.

And YY to peak men and boys. I'm sick to death of turning over stone after stone to find increasingly vile things underneath.

That school thing just shows everything that is wrong and how young this revolting attitude starts.

Of course it's up to the girls to make sure that no one is able to take any kind of photo of them, I mean obviously. If they will go around with their faces on while being female then they're asking for it really. How long till veils are suggested.

All the stories men have told for thousands of years say that women were created to serve men and for men to use as they please. Not only that but women are grateful and willing to be used by men or they are bad women.
