Transgender Statistics.

As in 'are all these statistics about transgender people true?'

Not as in 'do you identify as one or two standard deviations from the mean?'

I'm surprised they have chosen to cover this topic, I really thought they'd be scared off by the aggro that can result from talking about this topic.

CecilyNeville · 02/02/2018 16:40

FFS presenting Gendered Intelligence and GIRES as 'experts'.

Ereshkigal · 02/02/2018 16:44

Ah, I don't think my blood pressure wants me to tune in.

EnormousDormouse · 02/02/2018 16:44

Yup and the presenter using sex/gender 'assigned at birth'

AssassinatedBeauty · 02/02/2018 16:45

No, it sounds like they're not going to be critical and logical then. Shame.

VoleClock · 02/02/2018 17:08

Grrrr! I just caught this serendipitously. I was really hoping the first step would be ' if we want to know how many transgender people there are, first we need a clear definition of transgender' which might have led to the sort of clear thinking you usually get on this programme. But no - just a load of faff and muddle.

ReluctantCamper · 02/02/2018 17:51

ffs. Tim Harford talking about a transman - 'assigned female at birth'. Or born a woman as all normal people would say. What has happened to the English language?

I previously had a fair degree of respect for Tim.

ReluctantCamper · 02/02/2018 17:52

when I had my 20 week scans and was told I was having sons, was their fucking gender being assigned at that point?

why does no one in the media have any relationship with reality any more?

ReluctantCamper · 02/02/2018 18:00

still stewing on this.

By the definition of the rep from GIRES who spoke, I am trans. That's anyone who feels that the gender identity assigned to them at birth doesn't fit with their sense of self.

You bet that being expected to be 'nice' and 'kind' and not speak too loud, not take up too much space doesn't fit with my sense of fucking self.

I'm trans. When does the adulation start - I'll get on a short list to be an MP now right?

Ekphrasis · 02/02/2018 18:01

My Nipt test told me at 11 weeks that my male child is male.

#assignedatconception

rb67 · 02/02/2018 18:03

I thought this was a reasonable piece, considering the scope of the programme and the limited time. It is not the programme where the ridiculousness of the trans activists can be examined.
The topic would be best debated as a philosophy programme as the logic of the trans arguments simply do not stand up to scrutiny.

I had a look at the Wikipedia page for "woman", it has a pro trans stance, without critique.

ReluctantCamper · 02/02/2018 18:08

yeah, I think my fury is caused by the ludicrousness of 'Trans' rather than the programme itself. essentially they were saying 'we can't give you any numbers and here's why'. but the way they fell over themselves to use the nonsense language just got to me.

PracticallyTerfectInEveryWay · 02/02/2018 18:19

I'll listen to the programme later on iPlayer. Can that Wiki page be edited? Anyone up for that?

HairyBallTheorem · 02/02/2018 20:42

Good luck with changing anything on Wikipedia (sarcasm alert).

Fighting the wikipedia boys' club

Basically anything to do with sexual politics on there (feminism, gamergate, etc) is the preserve of 4Chan, Sick Puppies, etc. And the definition of women is, not surprisingly, under the control of MRAs masquerading as TRAs (or possibly the same as - I suspect one identity statement we can all agree with is "TRAs are MRAs".)

Then there is stuff like this Angry
