We have to ask.
Individually we have little power. But Mumsnet is a huge player in the media and politically. Why do we think Corbyn agreed to come on the last mumsnet webchat?
And if and when the Labour Party say no, then we will go straight back and ask to be involved in the consultation again. Be hugely helpful if MNHQ would help push this.
If Corbyn refuses repeatedly then we can ask who he did consult about self-identification of sex (it will be the trans lobby). This will give us the opportunity to make the point that he refused to do even a small webchat with the largest female forum in the country despite being asked repeatedly by mumsnet.
And the press will love a bit of Corbyn bashing, even if they don't care about the impact of self-ID on women either.
We have to play the long game.
And someone on the other thread suggested that we do a webchat with all the major parties on this issue. Great idea. Let's do Labour first since they are the ones actively pushing self-ID. But it shouldn't stop there.
