The one million rise up march is happening on March the 10th.

This is the problem, right here, men telling us what a good woman constitutes: “so all these ugly “real” woman can go fuck themselves sideways ... because these trans woman are more feminine then these bitches who try to demean them” - male poster on Morgane’s fb page (to Morgane’s credit she* called that misogyny).

  • I don’t have a problem w using that pronoun personally, I have a problem with people saying that “plumbing” does not define what is a woman, with biological men crowding into our bathrooms, changerooms, jobs, crisis centres, with biological men thinking they understand a woman’s lifelong experience of being female because these men dress like very feminine-presenting women.
missjaysays · 22/01/2018 21:29

Sorry to ask, I was about to start a separate thread asking this but figured I'm sure someone on here wouldn't mind briefly explaining this for me.

I really want to understand this argument, that trans women being classed as 'real' women is dangerous or bad for people who are biologically women. Sorry for using the word 'real' I really don't mean to offend I just want to understand better! Is anyone able to briefly explain for me?

Jozxyqk · 22/01/2018 21:38

I am this woman.

I am also disabled, & have had short hair, worn no makeup, "feminine" clothes or high heels for I don't know how long. I still miss them though.

No-one dictates to me that I am not a woman because my disability means I can't wear acceptable feminine costume.

CoolCarrie · 22/01/2018 21:42

Good on her for this! I am with her.

BeyondWW · 22/01/2018 21:42

Missjay, this thread might be helpful...

Hi missjay well there’s a couple of reasons.
When we change the definition of woman from a sex based definition to a gender based definition it means we have to a) accept that gender is a real tangible thing and b) accept male bodied people under the legal definition of woman.

Feminists believe that gender is a social construct designed by the patriarchy to keep people in their place by saying it’s a real thing we are saying that women are born to do all the caregiving and wear make up etc that it’s ingrained inside us. Which is something that women have been fighting against for centuries.

When we change the definition of women to include male bodied people we lose all of our sex based rights. How could you sue your employer for example for sexual discrimination because they only hire men as they won’t get pregnant if legally men can get pregnant too.

Women are not oppressed because of their ‘gender identity’ gender identity IS the oppression, we are disadvantaged because of our sex. Being the class of people who are the breeders and feeders of the species is why we need specific laws that protect us from being sidelined by society. Maternity pay for example.

Womanhood is a biological reality, we live it with our bodies. It’s not an idea in a mans head.

I love the quote about “soothing the male ego” at the bottom, bloody brilliantly written.

Apparently this woman is from the Rape Crisis centre in Vancouver. The same place, from memory that had to go to court to deny a trans identified male from being a rape crisis counsellor. Took them years and all their funding to fight him

That would tend to fuse the neurons together

Assigned wow. Good for her. She's amazing.

TheBadgersMadeMeDoIt · 22/01/2018 22:22

Shocking, that one of the bravest things I have seen in a while is a woman daring to define the word 'woman' at the women's march.

Absolutely. It feels like we're on the brink of some dystopian nightmare.

Can we donate to the crisis centre anywhere? I'd be quite happy if they were able to fight that battle 1000x over.

An interesting list of resources from Vancouver Rape Relief regarding women only spaces (& their defence of that in court).

lizzieoak · 22/01/2018 23:08

And a link to donate to them as someone below mentioned.

I am this woman

But I am also not this woman because often in rl, I keep quiet and do not express this truth for fear of transphobe hate

So really, I wish I were this woman
