Trans related - why do I get so angry about people who have never had ovaries talking about being on HRT?

I keep seeing it and it winds me up so much. Is it appropriation or is it just that it is so minimising of women's experiences?

I had a hysterectomy and my ovaries removed due to illness and family history of ovarian cancer at 41. I'm on HRT, R being replacment, ie replacing what my body used to make.

I wouldn't have an issue with the phrase Hormone Therapy, why the fuck do they keep adding in the R?

Sorry just need to vent to people that (hopefully) won't go "meh, what's the problem"

I guess it is appropriation. It's not nice having to be forced to go on it due to medical need and having that experience minimised. I'm aware a trans person (might say) they feel forced to go in it due to medical need, but really it's psychological need. It dies make me think of Rachel Doezel (sp?)

Is not a replacement of anything lost for a trans women, they never had it in the first place.

Well I suppose they are replacing their male hormones with female ones - or vice versa? In the range of trans issues to have to stop and think about, this isn't one I'm bothered about (and yes, I am on HRT).

It's not AIBU, but YANBU, mypoo. It does exactly the same to me. I really hate it. I am not fond of the phrase, but it feels appropriative.

I spent a couple of years on GnrH analogues in my mid 20s which put me into temporary menopause and literally destroyed my health, my libido, my career and nearly my marriage. When I hear them referred to as "puberty blockers" that are "harmless" and "totally reversible" I want to scream.

I have a great deal of sympathy for trans people, I can tell they must be suffering enormously to be willing to endure so much physically, mentally and socially in an attempt to make themselves feel "right". I know the havoc that hormone manipulation plays on the body and your life so I can understand how awful it just be to take hormones that biologically would never be produced in their bodies to that extent. Personally I think it erases their experience just as much as it erases biological women's experience when people pretend that the experiences are identical. What saddens me is that it's impossible to have a civilised discussion about all this without being branded a TERF.

It's part of the pretense that trans women were always female in some undefined way, thus medicine is "replacing" the hormones they "should" have had. Same thing as the switch from sex reassignment surgery (which was already nonsense, cosmetic surgery on the genitals doesn't change a person's sex) to "gender confirmation surgery".

I've never had kids and I'm furious when some clueless TIM says 'so women who don't have babies are men?'

And on this site, someone famous for me-railing told me my pain at infertility was easier to bear than theirs because at least I have a womb. This person had previously fathered a child.
