Mary Beard: Women & Power

Just discovered this book in Waterstones. Thought I'd give it a go as it's by the wonderful Mary Beard.

Have only read a few pages so far and love it. Has anyone else read it?

Glad you reminded me. I have read other books by her (to do with ancient history, unsurprisingly) but haven't bought this yet. I do think she's fab.

I was given it for Christmas but haven’t started reading it yet - looks good though!

It starts off with the misogyny in Homer's Odyssey and goes on from there.

A book on misogyny throughout the ages needs to be much bigger IMO ☺

The book does need to be bigger. At least 4x the size I think.

It was very much a lecture recorded in writing as she stated. Was OK with that when that was explained. Very short though and not sure it's a manifesto as Mary beard asserts.

Agree that it does need to be bigger as there's so much more to be written. Things are still pretty shitty for women and girls.

I watched the lecture it was based on (it used to be on iPlayer) and this book is basically the same, but I don't mind because I'm sure I'll want to re read in 10 years when I've forgotten the lecture! It's a beautiful wee book too

Sounds great- I love her. Going to order it at the library ASAP.
