23 years ago a woman was raped in Prospect Park in Brooklyn. Initially the police thought she was making it up, and said as much to the papers. A columnist at the New York Daily News then wrote articles saying she should be arrested for inventing the story. (The columnist has since died.)
The police have now proved from DNA evidence that she was telling the truth - the rapist is already in prison for raping other women.
Yet another case of women not being believed. The poor, poor woman. I don't know whether I feel more sad or angry. Mercifully, she is anonymous but imagine how it must have felt not to be believed after that had happened to you. It was a similar story in the John Worboys case - and numerous others, of course.
