This may have been posted elsewhere, but I haven't seen it:

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/jan/09/new-york-city-police-solve-1994-case-that-newspaper-called-a-hoax

23 years ago a woman was raped in Prospect Park in Brooklyn. Initially the police thought she was making it up, and said as much to the papers. A columnist at the New York Daily News then wrote articles saying she should be arrested for inventing the story. (The columnist has since died.)

The police have now proved from DNA evidence that she was telling the truth - the rapist is already in prison for raping other women.

Yet another case of women not being believed. The poor, poor woman. I don't know whether I feel more sad or angry. Mercifully, she is anonymous but imagine how it must have felt not to be believed after that had happened to you. It was a similar story in the John Worboys case - and numerous others, of course.

I read about this the other day and was bloody outraged on behalf of the women who was attacked. How terrible to be raped and then be treated so badly by the police and face a trial by media. I hope she has managed to come to terms with what happened to her.

I cant imagine the relief for the victim of finally having proof and being believed, a quarter of a century later.
There are an estimated 200,000 untested rape kits sitting in the USA, and many are destroyed untested.
There's been a move to clear the backlog, and as a result many serial rapists are being caught.

Scroll past the video and top paragraph to read about Kym Worthy, who has helped identify 817 serial rapists. She's inspiring;

I read about Kym Worthy just last week - amazing woman - the work she's doing, she should be getting woman of the year.
