Amazing - local (ish!) to me. I will be getting a ticket. Thank you!

Flikka40 · 13/01/2018 16:41

Posie I follow you on twitter!

I'd really like to go. Anyone else from Bournemouth area going?

CarriersForKos · 13/01/2018 19:35

I'm posting tentatively under my charity's name here, which I did think about not doing, but I'm at a point now where I'm already an out terf so I might as well.

I'll definitely be there. Very much looking forward to it, there's some incredible women involved.

newtlover · 15/01/2018 21:43

This looks like such a good event, really looking forward after seeing the youtubes of the Cambridge and Manchester meetings.

exexpat · 26/01/2018 18:46

I see that there is already a petition circulating trying to close the meeting down: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScQGCJRbKGWdAWAUX-qXAXWSeqCxMVqK_3781Yc0kUbY55SQQ/viewform?fbzx=-3933791562249443000

I'm not sure who started it and where the petition is going, but it is doing the rounds on twitter.

PlonitbatPlonit · 27/01/2018 19:18

I think the organisers have pretty strongly disputed that petition, typical of transactivists to try to shut the meeting down.

UpstartCrow · 27/01/2018 21:11

From that document;
''However, the proposed event, despite casting itself as a space for 'respectful and balanced debate', premises itself not only upon the violent denial of trans experience and identity, but on the deliberate propagation of fear- and hate-based narratives constructed specifically in order to lever public opinion against recognition of trans realities. This is not in any way an attempt to create a 'safe space' for these difficult conversations.''

Violent, really?
When Marie Dean is your poster child for your idea of womens rights, you've lost your way.

Cuntysnark · 31/01/2018 16:32

I've just bought my ticket. Coming from miles away, but would travel even further for this.

DonkeySkin · 31/01/2018 17:26

Thanks exexpat.

I note that the petition takes particular aim at the chair of the meeting, Raquel Rosario Sanchez, and seems designed to threaten her position at Bristol University's Gender and Violence Research Centre, where she is a PhD Candidate.

Readers of Feminist Current will know of Sanchez's work in the Dominican Republic for abortion rights and against femicide, and as part of the broader Latin American feminist movement.

www.feministcurrent.com/2016/10/21/black-wednesday-feminism-centers-ending-male-violence-women/

www.feministcurrent.com/2017/07/26/white-feminism-thing-gender-identity-ideology-epitomizes/

It's just repellent that people covering themselves in the mantle of 'intersectional feminism' would try to have someone like Sanchez ousted from her university and shut down her vital work for women and girls' human rights in Latin America. All because they are offended that some mere females dare to question men's sacred 'gender identities'.

Words can't convey the disgust I feel towards these sociopathic, authoritarian, patriarchal cultists who have the gall to call themselves 'feminists'.

SteelyPip · 03/02/2018 14:10

Hi has anyone else struggled to get a ticket? I'm on the waiting list as I was slow to book up.

MountainsofMars · 04/02/2018 15:46

Just bumping this -

I'll be there - coming in by train from further south west. I have to dash to get my train home, but I hope to see people there. I may even be brave enough to mention my recent scary experience of being doxxed. Apparently I'm allowed to talk about it publicly now, as long as I make no connection between my views & where I work & what I do for a living ...

I'm assuming we'll get an email that day telling us where the meeting will be?

CorbynTrouserPress · 06/02/2018 18:26

Just giving the thread a quick hoover (and a bump), I think my mum will be looking in tonight so she knows where we are on Thursday.

Hi mum

CorbynTrouserPress · 06/02/2018 18:36

And I'm adding this to the playlist for the event.

You've got to believe

lucydogz · 02/03/2018 19:40

really late on, but Bristol University have issued a statement supporting free speech, in response to this petition (good). Almost simultaneously, the Students Union have passed a resolution barring any speakers shown to have stated TERF views from speaking on the campus.
I totally missed this, but I'm hoping to get to the Cardiff one on 12th April.

Wanderingwomb · 02/03/2018 20:01

The petition is most probably from Gendered Intelligence. There's a really similar looking one linked on a other thread that was sent to BACP magazine Therapy Today against Stephanie Davies Arai and Transgender Trend. Both of the petitions bear a striking visual resemblance to the registration forms for training with Gendered Intelligence (shown to me by colleagues).

Wanderingwomb · 02/03/2018 20:03

Gendered Intelligence also seem to be Googling themselves as they turned up on a different thread. So if they turn up here perhaps they can confirm whether or not the petition is theirs.
