So women who don't identify as women in the basis of being actual women cannot apply for roles reserved for women

Im confused.

And how on earth is this being allowed to staff

I don't think that LM understood the question that was being asked. And whoever wrote that "note" on "self identifying" doesn't seem to understand that plenty of women don't self identify with a gender identity. But are still women.

This sort of confused nonsense is what you get when you try and use the concept of a gender identity instead of biological sex.

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/01/2018 23:49

My heard hurts reading the comments

OP posts:
Gileswithachainsaw · 11/01/2018 23:50

I don't identify as anything

I'm me

I'm a woman

But I can't apply for a woman's role unless a man agrees I'm a woman?

OP posts:
Gileswithachainsaw · 11/01/2018 23:52

And doesn't something have to be defined in order to identify as it?

OP posts:
Mxyzptlk · 11/01/2018 23:54

Can't a woman just say "Yes, I identify as a woman" and that's it sorted?

Deadlylampshade · 11/01/2018 23:55

So wait a minute, do I have to define as the sex woman or the gender woman?

Because I don’t define as any gender but my sex is female but I don’t ‘identify’ as that, that’s just fact.
So am I not a woman now?

Mxyzptlk · 11/01/2018 23:56

Not that a male who decides to self identify as a woman on a particular day should be eligible, imho.

If they did, tho, and decided to stop identifying as a woman after a while, l guess they'd be heaved out.

Gileswithachainsaw · 11/01/2018 23:57

But woman hasn't been defined so how can you define as something that's not got a definition.

And why isn't being a woman enough to apply for a job for women

OP posts:
AssassinatedBeauty · 12/01/2018 00:04

And how can you tell if someone is identifying as a woman or just pretending to in order to qualify for schemes they wouldn't otherwise be able to? Because it's all about what they believe rather than anything objective about them.

There are fewer women in these roles because of sex discrimination not because of being discriminated against due to their internal sense of gender identity.

I would find it very difficult to agree that I self identify as a woman. That would seem to be forcing me to agree that I identify with what I view as harmful gender constructs that I actively reject.

thebewilderness · 12/01/2018 01:40

Women who reject gender roles will be caught between a rock and a hard place. They will have to step out of the reality based community and disavow reality in order to request to serve the reality based community.

Seeingadistance · 12/01/2018 01:48

I have never, and I will never, identify as a woman. I am a woman. Not a cis woman. A woman.

Horrifyingly, I am a woman who is, along with all other women and girls, being forced into a future where I and we are to be nothing. Trapped in a nameless and un-nameable space between that rock and that hard place.

Fuck, fuck, fuck!

TheHodgeHeg · 12/01/2018 02:24

So weird. Why can't they have the usual box saying "sex - man / woman" without all this self identifying bullshit. I would hate to tick that I "identify as" a woman. It just feels wrong and makes my skin crawl a bit. I don't "identify as" a woman, I am a bloody woman.

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/01/2018 06:46

Does it work the other way do you think?

Could I tick the man box and apply for the rest of the positions?

There are interesting implications here. If 50% of roles are reserved for self identifying women (whatever that means) the other 50% of posts are not reserved for anyone, s

TheHodgeHeg · 12/01/2018 07:02

I think the other 50% are "open" positions i.e. men or women could take the role.

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/01/2018 07:03

But if the women's quota is filled then effectively they can hire all men for the remaining spots ????

OP posts:
Bearsinmotion · 12/01/2018 07:05

.... so anyone can apply and their success will be based on merit. So unless women make up a substantial % of those posts too (assuming they apply) there is clear evidence of bias. I would certainly expect the number of women who are successful in the non reserved posts to be greater than the number of trans women in the reserved posts, so more women all round, yay!

I just don’t think they have thought this through.

Bearsinmotion · 12/01/2018 07:07

They can. But if those appointments are based on merit there would be a difficult case to answer if they did all go to men.

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/01/2018 07:10

But they aren't worried about merit when they are prepared to turn down women qualified women who apply on.the basis they are gnc

OP posts:
nauticant · 12/01/2018 08:06

GenderCrit RadFem: What’s a woman? I am female but don’t define as anything, will I not get a place?

Lily Madigan: Unfortunately, people who don't identify as a self-defining woman can't run for posts reserved for them.

Someone makes a valid GC point and the response is trolling. But that's not surprising.

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/01/2018 08:12

I mean there's not even a check list so we can work out if We do or don't identify.

What criteria are we having to meet here

OP posts:
MsBeaujangles · 12/01/2018 09:05

Nauticant. Lily is clearly erasing agender transpeople. How transphobic!
