do feminists speak on behalf of all women?

something I see over and over is feminists mention something followed by "this offends women" or "this offends all women".

I remember a while back there was a campaign to put stickers that read "this offends women" on copies of The Sun in newsagents.

Feminists may well be offended by certain things but should they really be speaking for everyone?

Look everyone knows that when someone says 'women' they mean 'every single woman worldwide who has ever or will ever live', not 'two or more adult females' right?

Pisses me off when this is forgotten. Like when I see 'women's changing room' - I think - how on earth is every woman who has ever all will ever live fit into that changing room at once? They need to be more specific about their use of the word 'women'. Fuckers.

I googled 'this offends women' and sent the results to Head Office, in case anyone else was thinking of bothering.

do feminists speak on behalf of all women?

I'm not sure, I'll have to wait for some feminists to tell you on my behalf.

There are loads of really sarcastic comments here laughing about women 'having to listen to feminism because they don't have their own mind'.

In my experience, of I have ever disagreed with a point on feminism chat (mainly because I am trying to put across my point/learn new ones) I have been mocked and asked (equally sarcastically) 'do you want to give up your right to vote and not be raped then?'.

I'm starting to think that unless you nod and smile you just can't get it right.

eirlysse · 05/01/2018 18:34

Out of curiosity, what points would you like to make or question, @hollowtree?

BatShite · 05/01/2018 19:28

Noone speaks for all women. What a bizarre question.

thebewilderness · 05/01/2018 19:28

I used to wonder why Feminism, the political movement for the liberation of women, was so often criticized for using generalities when it is common to do so in every other political organization. I know why.

BarrackerBarmer · 05/01/2018 19:42

Women is the plural of woman.
So if you hear a feminist claim "this offends women" and she can count up to two female supporting opinions she's kinda covered her arse, I feel.

Of course, Feminists-R-Us did make efforts to individually poll 3.7 billion women each time they did a press release but funds ran out. Sadface.

meet the new boss, same as thew old boss...

I'm sorry you haven't found FWR helpful in the past, hollow, but do you honestly think the OP of this particular thread started this conversation in good faith? (An AS may help you to see some of his other "contributions").

SophoclesTheFox · 05/01/2018 21:14

i didn't get the memo on this Sad

Can someone please tell me how I should react to this thread?

Preferably a man, or failing that, two women should do!

losamsterdamos · 05/01/2018 21:17

"Who else will be speaking 'for women' if feminists didn't?"

It's 2018. Women living in places like the UK and USA can speak for ourselves can we not?

birdsdestiny · 05/01/2018 21:22

We are laughing at the op not women.

SophoclesTheFox · 05/01/2018 21:29

I would like a look at the master list of things I'm supposed to be offended by first, then I'll know if I am cleared by Head Office to Speak For All Women or not. I wouldn't want to step on toes!

I think I am on duty to be globally offended by Toby Young, manspreading on trains, the word "Chairman", and Miley Cyrus videos...but if anyone else wants them, please shout out.

So are you anti Trade Union?
Do you refuse to sign petitions, as you think 10,000 people can speak for themselves just as effectively?

joystir59 · 11/01/2018 14:28

Feminists speaking for all women ROCKS!!!!!!!

joystir59 · 11/01/2018 14:29

Iosamsterdamos
Good luck speaking on your own. That's always got things changed for women. Not.

UpABitLate · 11/01/2018 14:43

Erm all women include ones outside the UK and USA.

You silly billy.

"this offends women" or "this offends all women" - are not the same thing at all as PP has mentioned.

MrsKnightley · 11/01/2018 14:48

I don't need feminists to speak on my behalf. Men do that very nicely thank you. That way I don't have to worry my pretty little head about having opinions.

OlennasWimple · 11/01/2018 15:05

I'm not sure if I have opinions or not. I'll have to ask DH when he gets home from work

ISaySteadyOn · 11/01/2018 15:23

If we're the Borg, where the heck is my cyber eye and laser weapon? I shall be speaking to Central FWR office as soon as DH permits me.
