Gender Recognition Scottish Consultation

This was on Twitter saying you didn't have to be Scottish to answer:

consult.gov.scot/family-law/review-of-the-gender-recognition-act-2004/

FYI this rather good article from Scotland on the subject

wingsoverscotland.com/the-law-that-nobody-wants/

Going to be very interested to see how the responses are published. Having worked with local authorities in the past and seen how such consultations are merely a tick box exercise long after the path of action is already agreed and being put in place I will be surprised if they are honest about critical comments and statistics.

Notreallyarsed · 13/01/2018 10:26

@Glitterypinksoap I’ll happily blow up Nicola Sturgeon’s Twitter with screenshots if they don’t. I’m not anti SNP but I’m really, really angry about this.

Glitterypinksoap · 13/01/2018 10:46

In all honesty it may be a good idea to be prepared to do that, Not . I'll keep a copy of my response, that's something I hadn't thought of. Thank you.

Notreallyarsed · 13/01/2018 10:49

@Glitterypinksoap I’ve done that too. I do fear our responses being hidden, so I’m more than happy to plaster them everywhere until someone understands.

I filled it in (Scot currently living overseas). The question about divorce was horrifying, and I was not particularly polite about saying so.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 13/01/2018 11:11

I'm currently working on it - I'm determined to do it as well as I possibly can.

I'm deeply unimpressed by their "impact assessment" of how it would impact on women .

AngryAttackKittens · 13/01/2018 11:16

How will this impact women? Eh, no worries, we're sure it will be fine.

Reminds me of that ad that was put out before the last independence vote with the woman all "oh this is all too much thinking for silly wee mee, I'll just go put the tea on and let the men do the deciding".

Redonionricedpotato · 13/01/2018 11:26

It was the odious Patrick Harvie who said that he was confident that by listening to people who agree that there is no conflict between women’s rights and trans rights they would reach a solution.

The big problem is that all the women’s charities like rape crisis, zero tolerance, Engender, Scottish Women’s Aid, have had to say they’re totally on board with the new legislation as they are so dependent on statutory funding and will lose it if they’re perceived to be ‘transphobic’.

I would be very interested to know what their off the record view is.

I agree. I am reading closely through the consultation at the moment, and one thing that stands out to me is how it is all about the person who is applying for the GRC, no thought whatsoever seems to be given to the impact on other people.

AngryAttackKittens · 13/01/2018 12:09

They'e treating it like gay marriage, which really didn't have much of an impact on anyone other than the people getting married. In that case it would have been appropriate to word a survey to be all about the people directly impacted, but this is completely different.

I'm annoyed that there was no way to indicate that you're Scottish but not currently living there, so those of us in that position will no doubt be handwaved away as well what does this have to do with you anyway?

FlankerMum · 13/01/2018 17:01

Done and submitted :-)

Notreallyarsed · 13/01/2018 17:58

Bumping for traffic in active

sweetpotatosteak · 14/01/2018 00:14

Going to fill it out tomorrow - thanks for posting this OP.

BlindYeo · 18/02/2018 01:07

Done

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 18/02/2018 09:47

I'm finding it increasingly hard to take anyone in government seriously. That consultation read like it was put together by a 15-year-old work experience person.

OrderOnline · 18/02/2018 11:53

Where is the information on changing the name of the disabled toilet, so that it doesn't upset trans people who use it?

Aloneinacrowd70 · 24/02/2018 13:35

Bumping, as this consultation closes on 1 March.
