Please - anyone on twitter, can you retweet this and copy in Nicola Sturgeon @NicolaSturgeon

We need to get the Nationalists AND the Unionist talking about this.

So why exactly do you call yourself a reverend then?

RevStu · 05/01/2018 12:46

"RevStu, thanks for the article. Have you had much of a backlash? Any threats of dying in a fire etc.? (From the TAs)"

Cheers. Remarkably little backlash, in fact. When I get caught up in a controversy it tends to cost me anywhere between 20 and 300 Twitter followers, and this was way down at the low end, about 30 all in.

I do already block most of the insufferable wankers on Scottish Twitter, though, so maybe most of it just didn't reach me.

RevStu · 05/01/2018 12:46

"So why exactly do you call yourself a reverend then?"

I literally just answered that one. Pay attention.

BarrackerBarmer · 05/01/2018 13:07

RevStu
Your article was textbook radfem - did you have conversations with radfems that informed you of this level of detail or was your research proactive? It's astonishingly rare for a bloke to just 'get it' without having been primed by a well informed feminist or two. Most have no horse in the race and so aren't motivated to look into the subject at all. As I noted up thread, many responses of 'live and let live' in the comments below, which seems an unusual rejoinder to 'here, have a gander at some death threats issued to feminists by transactivists'.

Your piece was excellent. Glad you have such a reach with your audience.

QueenLaBeefah · 05/01/2018 13:11

Rev stu - have any SNP MSPs/MPs been in touch with you over this issue?

QueenLaBeefah · 05/01/2018 13:12

Oops - posted send to soon. Because I did think about contacting my MSP or MP over this but thought it was almost pointless as they never step out of line.

RevStu · 05/01/2018 13:24

"Your article was textbook radfem - did you have conversations with radfems that informed you of this level of detail or was your research proactive?"

Ha, I'm rarely accused of being overly cosy with radfems :) But I've been discussing this topic in general with a couple for a while.

And yeah, I don't really have a dog in this fight, it won't be me who has to deal with the consequences, but I've been amazed (and dismayed) at the reactions of people who would normally be screaming blue murder about the wishes of women being ridden roughshod over.

"have any SNP MSPs/MPs been in touch with you over this issue?"

I've spoken privately with one or two. There's some real concern inside the party - and the Parliament - but everyone is too scared of the backlash they'd get for speaking out about it, which is worrying. Hopefully showing them that the public is behind them in large numbers might stiffen them up a bit.

QueenLaBeefah · 05/01/2018 13:26

Thanks for replying. I'll write a letter to my MP and MSP. Maybe there is hope after all.

Thank you for using your platform to do this.

BarrackerBarmer · 05/01/2018 13:34

Yup. Thanks for doing this. And do pass my thanks to the women who talked to you.
Hope this keeps circulating.

I certainly hope so Sad

sweetpotatosteak · 05/01/2018 14:28

Thanks so much RevStu!! You have given me hope!

I would disagree when you and others say you (and men in general) don't have a horse in the race though. The biggest issue here is that of free speech and not being able to call a man a man etc. The consequences for that are truly awful and that's the angle Jordan (sp?) Petersen (sp?)'s been coming at it from. If you are called a bigot for saying your wife/friend etc gave birth to a baby boy (because it will become bigotry to define anyone by their bodies) then everyone is affected. And surely we will have to rewrite all the biology textbooks etc at great expense? And all the NHS training materials and guidelines and laws and legislation.

Excellent RevStu
Thanks for speaking out about this. Have you completed the Scottish Govt Consultation on this?

Could you tweet it to your followers? It would really help. Thanks

Wow, the Revs here! :-)

AntiqueOlive · 05/01/2018 17:05

Yes, I'm a fangirl. It's why I delurked after following the Feminist board since Spartacus to finally post. Thought Wings wasn't getting a fair reference on the thread.

BishBoshBashBop · 05/01/2018 17:15

Yes, I'm a fangirl.

Righto Hmm

AntiqueOlive · 05/01/2018 17:22

Fanperson? Is that better?

It was a bit of fun.

Jesus wept.

Bejazzled · 05/01/2018 17:58

.
I am also very concerned about these issues. Regarding the 'rev' - well even a slow clock is right once a day.

HirplesWithHaggis · 05/01/2018 18:07

Pretty much the same in WM, isn't it, Datun? They've just pushed their review back, but I haven't heard any MPs (of any party) speak out on the subject.

Bejazzled, I think you mean "stopped" clock... Grin
