Hi all... I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone for such interesting and eyeopening posts - over just a few days I have peak-trans'ed.

I am keen to write to my MP... and am starting to write my letter. And have already absorbed from other posts that it is often more than one letter, as the first can get a formulaic response. In reality, I'd be surprised if our MP is not open and sympathetic - a young woman who is very open-minded so it will be interesting to see how she responds.

I realise it would be very helpful to me - and hopefully others - to see the kind of letters people have already written (and yup, I may lift paragraphs from you!) - and to hear any advice on achieving results.

THIS IS NOT DESIGNED TO BE A DISCUSSION THREAD - please lets use to post great advice and examples of any letters you have sent.

Huge thanks in advance.

I think the best approach is to ask them to support the Equality Act to uphold the rights of the most vulnerable members of society.

Many women cannot share private spaces or services with biological males. Thats why women only spaces and services are protected by 3 of the protected characteristics; sex, race and religion.

Trans people need their own spaces and services. the third space option protects everyone's rights and dignity.

Keep it simple and short. Good luck!

Fab, thanks... yup my inclination is to put everything in but think short and sweet is more effective.

It really is. They dont have a lot of time for each letter. Pick a strong point and make that one point, so they have to refute it.
Plus it gives you the excuse to write more than once Smile

what is this GRA I keep reading about?

IrkThePurist · 04/01/2018 00:08

losamsterdamos the proposed Gender Recognition Act would allow any man to declare himself a woman by downloading a form and signing it. He would then have the same legal status as a biological woman.

Its been delayed for now, for legal reasons. EU legislation states its illegal to remove any of the protections given by the Equality Act. The GRA would effectively remove any protection, single sex spaces or services for women.
But minister Justine Greening has ignored that and stated they didnt realise how 'divisive' the proposal would be.

@loveyouradvice You sent me a pm a couple of days ago. I'm not being rude on purpose but I get an error message when I try to reply to you. I've asked for MNHQ help so hopefully will be fixed soon.
