Pink News LGBT heroes....

...
None of them are actual female lesbians.
It's fine though because Lily Madigan is a lesbian. So not a lesbophobic list at all.
I wasn't going to make a thread about this until I saw Lily's response on Twitter.
Lily, as the awesome Magdalen Berns says, lesbians dont have penises. Ffs.

I saw that. I have to say, as a lesbian, it is a long time since I felt that either PinkNews or Stonewall had anything to do with me, really. They should just be honest and drop the L from LGBT.

Nineteenagain · 27/12/2017 22:32

Holy c**p. They really are deluded aren't they.

Stopmakingsense · 27/12/2017 22:57

At least 6 out of that top 10 are transgender. How many of the population are transgender as distinct from lesbian or gay? What does that tell you about the LGBT movement? Or Pink (knee jerk) News?

MorbidMuch · 27/12/2017 23:16

They really don't represent lesbians or female bisexuals at all, do they?

Had a scroll through the timeline of Pink News and about 90% of images / articles were about males.

Also, what do they count as a 'hero'? In my mind, it is someone who makes a great personal sacrifice for others. What has Lily done for anyone other than themself??

GuardianLions · 27/12/2017 23:30

What has Lily done for anyone other than themself??

He did contribute to the bullying of an actual lesbian who had to resign from her position - what a hero.

It is so obvious to me that the MRA/TRAs have infiltrated everywhere they can, and the reason they hate lesbian feminists so much is because they are the only group who stubbornly resist penis and penis owners.

Maryz · 27/12/2017 23:38

That twitter feed is bonkers.

As is the list on which there are two women. One is a mother who took her child abroad for a sex change operation at the age of 16 and runs a group who encourage parents to medicate young children Hmm

The second is an almost afterthought - a lesbian mentioned only because she happens to be on a panel with two gay men and a transwoman.

I'm not sure about Hanne Gaby Odiele. While I know intersex groups have been asked to be left out of the trans debate, I do think that people born XY, but with androgen insensitivity syndrome, and brought up as girls/women are in a fairly shitty position, so if they are made (as children) to look like girls, and are treated as girls from birth, as far as I'm concerned they are the exception that proves the rule, and I'm happy to accept them as women.

GuardianLions · 27/12/2017 23:54

She is actually bi - so as long as you like cock, Pink News acknowledges your existence.

TunaSushi · 27/12/2017 23:56

I echo your thoughts MaryZ.

I have a heavy heart for all the lesbian women and their achievements we will never hear about.

I don't see the point in interacting with Lily, though keeping SS of tweets showing Lily is all about trans women issues only, in the women's officer role may be helpful.

You sound very lesbophobic and gynephobic battle

Fraying · 28/12/2017 00:22

Battle please explain why you think LGBT 'awards' should ignore the L?
Lily doesn't count as no-one knew they 'identified' as a lesbian until after the list was produced.

AssignedPuuurfectAtBirth · 28/12/2017 00:23

Yeh, ya bunch of facking facks. Transphonics. No Transfobes

TunaSushi · 28/12/2017 00:24

Where were all the trans men and their achievements, there must be many who accomplished many things other than give birth.

taylorj86 · 28/12/2017 00:38

There are too many labels for the same things, who knows what to think when there is so much confusion and paranoia about what is right and PC. There is sex and there is gender, end of.
Oh and stay away from Twitter to retain a clear mind.

Maryz · 28/12/2017 00:54

Since we seem to be forced into making a choice I'd rather be called transphobic than be misogynistic.

StoneColdDiva · 28/12/2017 01:27

Gonna namechange to TransphobicWeasel

Betti935 · 28/12/2017 08:47

As a lesbian I even recoil from the phrase LGBT these days. You might as well class us in a group with the Westboro Church. The Pink News et al hate women and in particular lesbians - unless they have a penis. Note that however much you suck up to them if you're a lesbian you won't be good enough eg no Justine Greening on that list despite trying her best to sell women's rights down the river.

The LGBT scene has always been misogynistic and lesbians have always been bottom of the pile. The difference is a) we used to be able to meet together as a group without men and b) we used to be able to at least call them out on it whereas now we can't say there are no lesbians on that list as we'll be told there are lots of (male) lesbians and rather than just getting ignored we'll get horrific abuse for pointing it out.

QuentinSummers · 28/12/2017 09:23

When I read it I started wondering why intersex is included with LGBT. Why? Is it purely so the T can talk about sex being a spectrum?
It just really jars with me. Why not include people with disabilities in LGBT then? It's bullshit.

What a deluded shitshow. But, they make our work easier.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 28/12/2017 09:41

Lily is discussing how he hasn't experienced male privilege but his TiF friend has now on that conversation.

Are we completely sure this isn't performance art??

Ereshkigal · 28/12/2017 10:11

It's amazing that so many people don't grasp how misogynistic and lesbophobic this state of affairs is.

Ketzele · 28/12/2017 10:36

Quentin, I think intersex people are being used in a very cynical way right now. We're not hearing the voices of intersex people themselves - it's trans activists claiming their struggle as they think it validates the claim that biological sex is not binary. I'd be very interested to know what intersex people think about this - though I doubt there is one representative view as there is a wide range of experience spread across a relatively small number of people.

As a lesbian, I don't feel my life experiences belong under the same banner as intersex people's at all. I just don't get it. As a feminist, I am very interested in how intersex people's lives have been shaped (and sometimes ruined) by patriarchal sex roles. As a human being, I am appalled at how intersex people have been treated over the years.

GuardianLions · 28/12/2017 11:22

I did wonder how lesbians managed to get the 'L' to the front of LGB. Probably just through being right and articulate so won through the misogyny with persistent clear thinking.

It really incredible how thorough the woman-haters have been in trying to prevent women meeting without men, prevent lesbians calling out lesbophobia, silencing clear critical thinking and no-platforming feminist thought leaders. Even getting feminists to chant "TERF" so they can't hear the truth. It is astonishing how much energy antifeminists have put into this.

It is so important for feminists to protect lesbian rights and promote lesbian visibility for the good of all women. But I think it is a hard sell because most heterosexual women (or people for that matter) hardly spare a thought for lesbians - even though I am het myself, I challenge this and notice how people recoil at the word 'lesbian' and feel more comfortable behind 'gay woman'. I can't see how this is going to change when lesbians themselves refer to themselves as a subset of gay men. I wonder how this could change?

Gileswithachainsaw · 28/12/2017 11:30

I saw this and thought the same thing.

I'm not a lesbian but when LM started with the "I'm a lesbian" crap it made me pretty angry and usually I hate it when people get all offended and angry on other people's behalf.

That anger was only topped by that woman from mermaids making the list. That, I couldn't believe..

TunaSushi · 28/12/2017 11:36

I am heterosexual. I am very grateful to lesbian feminists. They were there for me in the aftermath of leaving an EA man and taught me feminism. Amongst my unsolicited own attack (they tried to silence a group of women talking it had nothing to do with trans) a few years ago by TRAs, when I heard of the cotton ceiling and what was happening to women and children, I just couldn't be on any other side.
