The LGBT scene has always been misogynistic and lesbians have always been bottom of the pile. The difference is a) we used to be able to meet together as a group without men and b) we used to be able to at least call them out on it whereas now we can't say there are no lesbians on that list as we'll be told there are lots of (male) lesbians and rather than just getting ignored we'll get horrific abuse for pointing it out.
I did wonder how lesbians managed to get the 'L' to the front of LGB. Probably just through being right and articulate so won through the misogyny with persistent clear thinking.
It really incredible how thorough the woman-haters have been in trying to prevent women meeting without men, prevent lesbians calling out lesbophobia, silencing clear critical thinking and no-platforming feminist thought leaders. Even getting feminists to chant "TERF" so they can't hear the truth. It is astonishing how much energy antifeminists have put into this.
It is so important for feminists to protect lesbian rights and promote lesbian visibility for the good of all women. But I think it is a hard sell because most heterosexual women (or people for that matter) hardly spare a thought for lesbians - even though I am het myself, I challenge this and notice how people recoil at the word 'lesbian' and feel more comfortable behind 'gay woman'. I can't see how this is going to change when lesbians themselves refer to themselves as a subset of gay men. I wonder how this could change?
