Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

The trans movement in 30, 40, 50 years...?

I'm new to the feminist boards but have been reading with interest these last several months.

I wonder whether the trans-movement will get greater with time at the expense of women's rights, or implode altogether when more and more young people speak out about ending up in irreversibly botched bodies later down the line...?

I honestly have little clue, but would be interested in discussing with people. Thanks in advance for your replies!

I think in it's current form it will implode. It's not really reached the mainstream yet and I think it will get short shrift when it does.

I hope we will move to a more sensible position where we stop gendering stuff and behaviours get rid of gender stereotypes. I hope gender will dissapear, and sex segregation will remain where it is necessary.

Although it would be lovely to get to a place where it wasn't necessary because male violence stopped and women were genuinely equal but somehow I think we've got a way to go.

nauticant · 22/12/2017 15:59

In a few decades there's going to be lots of red faces, a fair number of horribly damaged individuals, a large number of confused people saying "how could we not see this at the time?", and a very large number of young people looking back in to the history of their parents' time and shaking their heads saying "how on earth did they fall for this stuff?"

That's me with my pre-holiday optimism. My 2 January 2018 version would be much more pessimistic.

Elendon · 22/12/2017 18:41

Will be were it was 50 years ago.

There will be articles a plenty regarding the mutilation of young children though and class actions. Which is incredibly sad and makes me angry.

Stopmakingsense · 22/12/2017 20:28

Am hoping that the sooner everyone knows that gender reassignment is the equivalent of lobotomies the better. Can't come soon enough.

perfectly · 22/12/2017 21:45

In 30,40,50 years we'll look back at the trans movement the way gay people look back at how they were treated 30,40,50 years ago.

cromeyellow0 · 22/12/2017 21:47

In 10 years we will look on transgenderism like lobotomies, as Stopmakingsense says, or recovered memories of sexual abuse (the parallel made by Blanchard).

In 50 years, transgenderism will be the norm: wealthy people will be growing their own body parts from stem cells, or we'll all be avatars anyway and so physical bodies will be irrelevant.

In that sense I think Denis Riley and Lily Madigan are ahead of their time!

Oh OP haven’t you seen Owen Jones’ frequent proclamations that gender critical folk are on the wrong side of history? He says similar to the rubbish perfectly just said above.

For my part, I think a happy medium where consideration of all parties will eventually be reached, where the public reach peak trans. However I think (and hope) that being trans will be less stigmatising in the future.

MiMi78 · 22/12/2017 22:02

Any movement that promotes the mutilation and drugging of children will not look good in hindsight.
However much trans activists want to align it with the gay movement.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/12/2017 22:12

It's going to implode, but I'm not sure when.

Once high profile trans-kids like Jazz Jennings or the Mermaids' CEOs son crash and burn it'll kind of be over.

My worry is whether this happens before or after the government abolishes women's rights.

LangCleg · 22/12/2017 22:12

I'm with McTufty in that I think the current extreme trans ideology will eventually peak and pass. And, hopefully, its legacy will be greater protections for the GNC children it damaged twinned with a better social outlook for the genuinely dysphoric.

But I think it will cause huge damage before this happens. There will be medical malpractice scandals, safeguarding of minors scandals, and women will lose ground that our granddaughters will have to fight to regain.

TheXXFactor · 22/12/2017 22:14

I hope that, in 30 years time, the trans movement won't exist - in the sense that we will have realised that gender is rubbish and that everyone should be able to live/dress as they want, without having to maintain the fiction that they belong to the opposite sex. Sadly, the trans movement seems hellbent on reinforcing gender stereotypes instead.

brizzledrizzle · 22/12/2017 22:14

It will be like the view we have now of the sex abuse scandals of the 1970s and 1980s.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 22/12/2017 22:15

We live in litigious times. People are going to SUE THE ARSES off anyone who did ANYTHING to ANYONE under 18. And the sue some more arses off anyone who did anything to anyone or advised anyone or failed to prevent anyone from taking hormones/transitioning etc.

And that will be the tip of the iceberg as it will then become a Rotherham/Hillsborough style inquiry where questions will be asked about who knew what when.

I am really not sure why supposedly intelligent people in government and in the NHS/NICE can't see that coming.

terfing · 22/12/2017 22:18

Yes, I am very worried about the amount of lawsuits the NHS will be getting... Sad

BatShite · 22/12/2017 22:25

It will implode, as this generation of transkids grows up and realises what has been done to them. There will bean absolutely huge scandal and questions will be asked about how so many people were duped into abusing kids, as thats what it is basically. 10 years, 15 tops.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/12/2017 22:31

10 years, 15 tops

I think it might be sooner than that. I feel terribly sorry for Jazz but I really don't think they are in a good place at the moment, and I don't think they'll be able to take much more before something gives.

What's happening to them is absolutely horrific, and Jazz is of an age now to begin to realise the impact of what has been done to them Sad

guardianfree · 22/12/2017 22:37

I hope that people are keeping and storing screenshots and information about those doing the manipulating, peddling the lies and misinformation, handing out the drugs and failing to protect those below the age of consent. These children will need this information once they reach adulthood and are able to comprehend what has been done to them before they were old enough to understand the consequences.

irretating · 22/12/2017 22:38

Yes, I am very worried about the amount of lawsuits the NHS will be getting... sad

I'd be surprised if the NHS isn't making these kids or their parents sign forms before proceeding with therapy. American clinics do because the hormone therapies are being used for another purpose other than the one intended.

nauticant · 22/12/2017 23:03

That's a fair comment guardianfree. If there is a return to science-based and rational thinking, the rewriting of what went on will be absolutely epic.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 22/12/2017 23:50

I'd be surprised if the NHS isn't making these kids or their parents sign forms before proceeding with therapy.

You can't sign away your rights though.

Betti935 · 22/12/2017 23:51

Am hoping that the sooner everyone knows that gender reassignment is the equivalent of lobotomies the better. Can't come soon enough.

The Express is making that exact comparison. So glad to see some actual sense on the trans issue in the mainstream media:

ILoveDolly · 22/12/2017 23:53

It's an interesting question, because in the general provincial 'real world' its usually a bit of a non issue. I don't think anyone will go for the new world as desired by transactivists.

CertainHalfDesertedStreets · 23/12/2017 00:00

Oh god.

Now I agree with The Express...

LizzieSiddal · 23/12/2017 00:01

As others have said I hope the extreme trans demands, will reach mainstream awareness very soon. They’re will then be a huge backlash and sense will prevail.

I’m hoping Ian Huntley will, very soon, try to sue the Govt because he wants to transition and move to a woman’s prison. The press will go ape shit as will the public.
