Finally got a response from TopShop, they'd just like to confirm they don't actually give a crap about woman and girls and haven't actually answered any of my questions.

*On behalf of Topshop Topman I am sorry to hear that you feel this way and I want to reassure you personally that it is never our intention to cause offence to our valued customers.

We endeavour to provide a shopping experience that is both enjoyable and inclusive for all our customers and as such made a recent decision to update our fitting room guidelines.

As with all decisions, the policy revision to open all fitting rooms to all customers was made with our customers at the forefront of our thinking. We pride ourselves on being inclusive to all and believe our customers should be made to feel as comfortable as possible whilst in our stores.

Our customers are always our highest priority and all our fitting rooms are individual, private spaces – the areas are fully staffed and monitored to ensure the safety and security of our customers.

I trust this email gives you more context around our decision and I hope, in due course, you may decide to shop with us again in the future. Please accept my sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused.

If there is anything further I can help with, please do not hesitate to contact me by replying to this email address.*

Our customers

Hmm they mean the menz

They're idiots.

Is there any more rage-inducing phrase in the English language than "apologies for any inconvenience caused"? (Apart, perhaps, from "Calm down"?) It's not about inconvenience, it's about safe spaces.

If they're genuinely so dim that they don't prioritise the desire of their female customers to have single-sex changing areas over the needs of a minority of men to get into women's spaces, then they fully deserve a boycott. Wankers.

What I don't get is if the cubicles are individual, manned by staff, private, safe etc. why can't transwomen (or people like Travis who is a bloke) just use the men's changing rooms if there is nothing to fear and the changing rooms of both sexes are perfectly safe?

VerticalBlinds · 22/12/2017 11:52

"made a recent decision to update our fitting room guidelines"

But not the actual fitting rooms lol

I also find it weird they have said they didn't want to cause "offence". It's not offence they have caused in the women who have reacted negatively to this policy. It's fear / distress / anxiety / concern.

Thehairthebod · 22/12/2017 11:52

And also if Travis is 'non-binary' (or whatever he is) then he doesn't have a gender so logically given he is a male, surely he should just use the men's?

In any other situation, a grown man aggressively insisting that he should be allowed access to female changing rooms would be ringing all sort of alarm bells, but because Travis wears makeup and dresses, he can basically demand what he wants, and women are supposed to say 'ah sure sweetheart' in the name of 'being kind'.

It's fucking bizarre.

Sorry I know all this was hashed out at the time, but I am still Confused about it all.

Also lol at fitting rooms being "fully staffed" at all times at every shop in the country.

It's like if they say the words it must mean it's true. Same as some other people I can think of...
