The Gender ID Bill and the Labour Party - quick question.

So... would it help to join the Labour Party, do you think? I know their current behaviour is disgusting, the Lily Madigan thing, Owen Jones' not listening to anyone etc, and I just wonder if being on the inside would be useful or not.

Joined twitter to see if I could help that way - only looked at for a day and thought AAAAAGH SO MUCH HATE!!! so that is not the way for me. Have written to and just met with MP. Have written letters as my friends for them then to sign and send to their MPs (in diff constituencies).

What else can I do? Am I right in thinking the Women's Equality Party are being crap about this too? Feeling THE RAGE this morning... Thanks for any help xx

Dunno Macaroon, I've been Labour all my life and the party position seems to be that they support the GRA and if you don't like it, don't let the door hit you on the arse on the way out.

Tris Osbourn made it very clear on Twitter that Labour don't want the votes of women who are gender critical or question the trans agenda in any way.

Which is fine, cos if they don't want my vote then presumably they don't want my membership fees or union donations either.

I'm bloody furious too.

Hi @FattyCat, thanks for your thoughts. How depressing! Maybe I am better off just doing my own thing at the moment. I do want to question Jeremy Corbyn about it. Keep having imaginary conversations with him while I do the washing-up!

Tris Osborn is not a MP, is that right? He is a local councillor? Read that thread about him with links to his tweets, he seemed insufferable...

Yup Tris is a councilor.

There seems to be a fair few women milling around at the moment wondering where to go politically.... I can't support any party that supports the GRA as I see it as a violation of women's rights. And all the parties support it at the moment.

I've emailed Labour and got F all back.

I've been questioning where they stand on trans identifying males going into the womens only space in a place of worship and they dont give a toss.
Many of the replies sound more like they come from the BNP than Labour.

I was a Labour member and tried to raise this many times. It's impossible to discuss it on the labour party groups without being called a bigot, and the local team fully support it. I've left and explained why. I really don't know why any women would continue to support labour when they are doing this to women. It's a bit like people from ethnic minorities joining the bnp.

Don't give up on the Labour Party - there is no existing policy position on this issue and it's up to members to make sure that a good policy is adopted. That's how it works. If women who are concerned about this leave the party that's few people to contribute to that process.

Owen Jones doesn't speak for the party only for himself. Lily Madigan was elected to an unpaid CLP position by members of her constituency - who were doubtless intimidated by the TERF 'trans-phone allegations. Ask her/him what is being done to promote active involvement of women in Rochester and Strood CLP...

If you check out A Woman's place on Facebook or twitter there's a good launch statement and a suggested resolution to take to your Branch or Constituency party. I'm sending it to the secretary of my CLP for discussion in January.
