Christmas Hampers

Just been sent a Xmas hamper from Fortnum & Mason by a work contact. Now, I'm really not ungrateful - it's full of lovely things - but why do they always include tea & coffee? It's not like most people don't already have that at home ...

Now I'm going to sound really pretentious - I do love real coffee and have one of those bean-to-cup machines so ground coffee really isn't something that can feature in my life.

I don't drink Tea nor Coffee and I'm a feminist. I vote we forget equal pay, sexual assault or any trivial issues like that and focus only on the removal of these items from hampers.

We can call ourselves Tea Exclusionary Radical Feminists.

Just had a quick look around the rest of the board.

It really is the wrong place for me to be hanging out.

I'm so sorry people.

I was really curious to see what the problem was with Christmas hampers

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 08/12/2017 19:04

It has improved the quality of the targeted adverts I'm getting!

hackmum · 08/12/2017 19:11

I thought this was going to be about giving Christmas hampers to women's refuges. As it isn't, I might as well bring it up here. Apparently at Christmas, women's refugees receive plenty of presents for the children, so it's nice to make a donation of gifts the women can have such as perfume, bubble bath, chocolates etc.

As you were...

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 08/12/2017 19:13

Proper tea is theft!

Loose leaf Christmas tea. Tea.

Loose leaf makes a much better cup.

SparkleFizz · 08/12/2017 19:14

Sounds like fancy luxury tea / coffee.
And as such, suitable for a luxury Christmas hamper Xmas Smile

Stopmakingsense · 08/12/2017 19:17

Thank you for providing a much needed laugh this evening!

SparklyUnicornTractors · 08/12/2017 19:21

LOL Feminist tea! Rah! I love MN Grin

KatherinaMinola · 08/12/2017 19:21

I thought it was going to be about this (taken from another thread):

"How can Lily and the Labour Party not see that growing up white, male and middle class is the Christmas hamper of privilege?"

@extinctspecies don't worry about posting here, no one minds, in fact it has been rather pleasant.

extinctspecies · 08/12/2017 19:35

Thank you. I am a proud feminist, but am more inclined to express my feminist views over on the Archers thread ...

A friend has ordered an Abel & Cole Organic Hamper for me as a present. It’s my first ever Xmas hamper and I am really quite excited, should arrive next week. I was a bit worried it would only contain healthy, tasteless, sugar free nonsense but had a peek at the contents online and it all looks quite nice.

extinctspecies · 08/12/2017 19:54

I would have preferred an Abel & Cole hamper to a Fortnum's one too. Closer to my ethics.

(But I'm not ungrateful)

This thread made me smile. I thought it was going to be about pink sparkly hampers aimed at teenage girls or something. Thanks extinct!

DJBaggySmalls · 08/12/2017 20:07

hipsterfun Fucking crying here Grin

Does anyone remember when Linda McCartney sent a F&M hamper to the Greenham Common Wimmin? They sent it back because it had quail or some such foolery in it. And converted her to a lifetime of vegetarianism.

SophoclesTheFox · 08/12/2017 20:42

Proper tea is theft!

Pffffffttt! You win!

I was expecting the thread to be about men and women being given different hampers, and the women's ones being all champagne truffles and the men's one dead things in tins. But I like this better Grin

QuentinSummers · 08/12/2017 21:49

Stay extinct!
I am slightly disappointed there wasn't a perceived femijist issue with fortnum and mason tea Grin
