I have always been a really avid reader but in recent years the pressures of work and small children combined with the temptation of mindless browsing on my phone of an evening means I only ever open a book on holiday. DH and I are going to have a reading evening weekly in the new year and I'd really like to read some thought-provoking and significant feminist literature. Reading discussions on here and the current threat to women's rights makes me want to be as informed and aware as possible!

I'm currently reading Rebecca Solnit's 'Men explain things to me and other essays'.

It's fantastic. Very readable and not overly long. I'd highly recommend it.

Thanks! I'll look it up.

You can't go wrong with the classics - Germaine Greer's The Female Eunuch and Kate Millett's Sexual Politics, for starters. Oh, and A Vindication of the Rights of Women by Mary Wollestonecraft.

I agree about the Rebecca Solnit book.

The Beauty Myth by Naomi Wolf - another classic.
