Wonderful speech. Helen Steel rocks! When I think of how tenacious this woman has been over the decades, with McLibel and then with the spy cops stuff, to see her fighting back tears when talking about this brings home how truly awful this situation is. Thank you Helen Flowers

Also watched the Linda Bellos video. She said she is as likely to call herself 'cis' as she is to use the word n**r. Go Linda! YY to challenging whether they have done a proper equality impact assessment. Here is the equality impact assessment the Scottish Govt. have done as regards sex in their GRA consultation. Fucking shoddy.

That’s fucking awful. ‘“Some women’s groups may...”.

How about ‘all women do...’?

How many women have they asked? How many women know?

And ‘we are committed to not letting this impact women’, but we won’t enshrine any of that in law, just cross our fucking fingers.

ChattyLion · 02/12/2017 22:25

Thank you to all these speakers for setting the arguments out publicly and articulately despite the personal attacks they have had. Flowers

PencilsInSpace · 03/12/2017 20:33

That’s fucking awful. yy Datun. I also don't understand how they can get away with 'Policy is not designed for this' when the whole point of doing an impact assessment is to look for unintended consequences!

PencilsInSpace · 03/12/2017 20:34
is up now too.
SparklyUnicornTractors · 03/12/2017 21:10

Pencils thank you for sharing that - I hadn't heard Anne speak before and am very impressed with her insight, knowledge and a commitment to public service, and her ability to communicate these concerns. I find it difficult to know how anyone can dismiss her and the others on this remarkable panel, particularly when the standard of communication being put up against this articulate presentation is 'well I look more feminine than you'.

These women should be heard and platformed everywhere.

SparklyUnicornTractors · 03/12/2017 21:19

And I've just very belatedly clicked and put the face to all I've read about Battle and the brilliant posts. Blush I'll just quietly add AR to the list of people I'm in awe of.

jeaux90 · 03/12/2017 21:48

She's awesome and brave.

VivaLeBeaver · 03/12/2017 21:53

Great speech.

PencilsInSpace · 03/12/2017 21:57

These women should be heard and platformed everywhere.

YY! And the irony is so many of us would be unaware of these brilliant women if they had not been brought to our attention by the transactivists giving them such a shitty time.

So hahahahaha!

Helen Steel, Linda Bellos, Anne Ruzylo you all rock! StarFlowers

LangCleg · 03/12/2017 22:00

Anne: if you're reading - you are a BEAUTIFUL woman.

ChattyLion · 03/12/2017 22:44

Flowers Anne Ruzylo what an inspirational woman you are. And what a fucking travesty your treatment has been. Thank you, for your hard work and public service paid and unpaid.
It shocks me that Labour have been this shit at national level.
What more actually has to happen to women’s detriment, before politicians and parties will act properly?

ChattyLion · 03/12/2017 23:19

Right I’ve now watched Linda Bellos’ speech as well Flowers great point she makes about the Equality Impact Assessment. Is there usually public consultation on EIA? or (it would seem!) are they written by civil servants without consultation- and if so, how can the public respond critically to an EIA once it has been published? Via views to local MP only?

GuardianLions · 03/12/2017 23:44

Great speech Anne Ruzylo. And I agree it is so important to reframe 'activists' as people who actually help and make lives better - so called 'Trans Activists' and 'Men's Rights Activists' are basically misogynist, bullying male supremacist wankers and fluffers who should be regarded more as thugs, sadists, misogynists, hate criminals and their helpers - not activists.

Thermostatpolice · 04/12/2017 08:02

I'm horrified at how Anne has been treated by the LP. And how women are being silenced and disregarded by all political parties. Thank you Anne.

hackmum · 04/12/2017 09:13

Thank you, Helen, thank you, Anne and thank you, Linda. Three brave women standing up for what is right.

misskelly · 04/12/2017 10:14

I watched this last night and thought Helen was fantastic. Isn’t it sad that some people get furiously worked up if you don’t agree that transwomen are women but talking about the number of women who are threatened, raped, assaulted or murdered doesn’t produce the same outrage.

hipsterfun · 04/12/2017 10:32

Quite, in topsy-turvy world, the ‘violence’ of misgendering takes precedence over the violence of, um, violence.

It’s astonishing how these women, who have decades of working for equality under their belts, are being treated so appallingly.

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 04/12/2017 19:29

I just read Helen's story. Absolutely shocking. That's why women need safe spaces.

ArcheryAnnie · 04/12/2017 19:56

This is such a good speech. Thank you for posting it.

And thank you so much, Helen.

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 04/12/2017 20:04

I am a lurker on these pages. I have emerged with teary eyes to say thank you to Helen, and all the other women standing up for this. You are putting my experience and fears into words.

Your bravery is incredible. Your words are powerful 💐 for all of you.

woman11017 · 04/12/2017 20:28

This is old, but interesting interview with Helen Steel on the Mac Libel case.
www.mcspotlight.org/people/interviews/helen.html
Part of a fantastic generation of activists.

hipsterfun · 04/12/2017 23:51

Thanks, woman, I enjoyed reading that interview, though it has rather compounded my sense of despair about the apathetic youth of today and their ridiculous identity politics [old gimmer face]
