MPs confused understanding of gender

I hadn't read the Transgender Denate that took place in the House of Commons last year until today:

I think this excerpt sums up how ignorant confused the MPs that are pushing changes to the GRC are:

Does my hon. Friend agree that the essence of today’s debate is that gender is a social construct, and that that should be recognised in law? It is not primarily a biological construct, but because the law is based on that outdated concept, it is failing us.

I thank my hon. Friend for that intervention. I reiterate that the law must be updated to recognise an individual’s gender identity, which has nothing to do with their birth gender and everything to do with the gender that they believe they are.

How can you say that gender is not primarily a biological construct and also agree that we have a 'birth gender'? It's one or the other surely?

If gender has got nothing to do with biology then why change your sex on your birth certificate? Why change your body? It makes no sense!

I honestly think some MPs haven't understood the language and its vital they do

My MP has ignored two letters about it, he normally replies fast. I think he thinks I'm an evil anti trans person.

My MP gets it, but clearly hadn’t before I wrote. He was particularly grateful for the SAGES leaflet I sent.

I groaned when i read that. I think its the terminology that befuddles people as well. Once you say sex and gender and orientation are seperate things i think people get the difference. Whats disappointing is they didn’t even do some cursory reading around the subject.
